My daughter lost her very fist tooth two weeks ago. the tooth fairy left her $3 for it and a note. The best part was a story the tooth fairy left on the dining room table on how the tooth fairy becaome the tooth fairy and what she does with the teeth in fairyland. I just went on the internet and search "tooth fairy story" and found a wonderful story printed it up and cut the edges off to show it came from the interent. My daughter was sooo focused on how much $$ she would get and not the actual tooth fairy. Her views changed completely after she read the note and saw and read the story. she tells everyone now about how the tooth fairy became the tooth fairy and not how much $$ she got. I plan on giving her a dollar from her on out until a moler comes out that one will be $5. Hope this helped.

i think $1/tooth $5 for the first one sounds really appropriate.

and yes, how much money does the kid need

I think I've only been giving a buck a tooth. Sounds like Mina's getting ripped off.

I've been giving 6 Quarters per tooth. I'm also from the old school and it kills me to give a buck fifty.

Actually, I'm kind of of the theory that I heard on TV one day...can't I just leave a $20 and a note from the fairy that says that should cover her for the whole mouth? Smiler

My friend did this with her kids. The tooth fairy gave them 5 for the first tooth but left a note saying that if they leave there tooth in this little velvet bag that they would get a dollar a tooth but if they didnt it was only a quarter because of the extra work she would have todo to find it. She keeps the bag for them ofcourse but they seem to love the idea.

When my brother was a kid, he lost a tooth while my dad was out at the bar with his friends. When he got home from the bar, my mom told him about the lost tooth. He and his friends went in there and emptied their pockets of their bar change all over his bed. He woke up in a bed filled with money. Yes, my dad's an alcoholic, but it's still a good story.

I just have her put it in a zip lock bag...then I put the change in a different zip lock and swap em.

Sierra tells me that the tooth fairy has a map with blinking lights (like GPS for teeth) for when kids lose the teeth. She waves her magic wand and "tells" the teeth to come to her magic box and then says how much money should magically appear under the kids pillow (like allocating funds in the bank right?)

She's so smart, cracks me up.

Sounds like there could have been a profit in timing the loss of a tooth just right Smiler

Mine is past the tooth fairy stage, but I used to give $2. Oh actually the last couple of baby teeth to be pulled were pulled by the dentist since they were holding the permanent teeth from coming in properly so those cost me a bit more than $2 Roll Eyes

I give $5 for the first tooth and $2 after that. People thought I was being way to generous, but I figure $2 doesn't take you far these days..you can barely buy a chocolate bar. Of course, being tooth friendly, I guess they shouldn't be buying chocolate bars with their tooth fairy money...

Katie said we should've pinned it to his butt since that was where the tooth had to come out.

I love that - definitely sounds like something my kids would say too ! I remember getting a quarter each tooth. Thanks for the advice - Hunter will be happy to get enough money to add to his dinosaur collection (wants to be a paleontologist). His younger brother 'accidentally' whacked him in the mouth yesterday and knocked out that first tooth (he managed not to swallow it). Hunter actually thanked him instead of hitting back. Went with the $5 first tooth idea and a note - will be $1 after this.
