So I'm just wondering if it is weird that my six year old son's best friend is a five year old girl. I'm not really concerned about it I'm really just happy that he found a friend that he likes spending time with. I'm just wondering if anyone else out there has a son that prefers playing with girls?

Well, when I was 5-6 I started having huge crushes on all the girls. So I liked playing with them. Anyway, just don't give him any gender biases. The world will do that enough.

My 10 year old son's "Best friend" is a 12 year old girl!! Yegh I know and like all his little buddies say...yes she is HOT!!! But really she is a beautiful girl & a good kid....He laughs at his friends & is like " Shannon come on now!!"
For kids that age 4,5,6,7 etc... they can be friends with whoever they enjoy w/out worries. I'd be "concerned" if he likes to dress in girls clothes, paint his nails, only wants to play girl games & says he wants to BE a girl...I actually taught a boy in kindergarten that did all these & did feel that way & it was heartbreaking b/c his parents were so upset about it. Even then he is your child and they need to be who they are going to be...my question is what are you concerned about? I don't mean to be offensive by that question...I'm just trying to make you think why in your own heart?

I wouldn't worry. My son has friendships with girls at times and they seem to have more of the brother/sister type relationships. I think it's healthy in a way since it teaches children how to relate to the opposite gender.

My oldest son loves to play with girls. I was worried about it but his teacher assured me it was normal.
