I am New to SFV
Posted
Hi I am new on this site. I don't really know where to post this or if I am doing it right so I aplologize. My name is Miranda. I am a single mother of a beutiful 7 year old girl. Her father and I were together in high school and had my daughter soon after I finished school. I broke up with him when my daughter was just four months old. She has never met her dad. He asked me once if he could see her and I said no because I know that he now has a very bad drug and achohol problem. My daughter sees his father and step mother on the regular basis but they too rarely ever see her father. I would like to petition him to sign over his parental rights so that I can have sole custody of my daughter. I do not have the money it takes to hire a lawyer and do not know where to even begin. Can anyone offer advice or point me in the right direction. I would be very appreciative of your help.

Is he willing to sign them?
If he is you shouldn't have a problem getting the forms from a law library and give them to the parents so he can sign them.
If he is not, you are going to have to go through the court process and it takes time and money. If he doesn't sign them you can go after him for child support, you know that, so may be he'll be better off signing them. Some courts will tell you the forms you need to guide you.
Good luck
