I am pretty sure there is nothing I can do, but maybe someone knows something I don't. I have not seen or heard from Lyla's father since I was 3 1/2 months pregnant. At this point, I don't even know where he is. I want nothing from him, as the situation is much better this way. But, of course it is always in the back of my mind that he may just appear one day. I have moved since he left and all my contact info has changed. He still could locate me through my work. Is there anyway to keep him out of my life and hers legally.

Well, you can first put n order to terminate the fatherly rights to your child. This is the ONLY way to stop him from legally contacting you. Here is the tricky part, the longer you wait, the better changes you have of getting the termination and also of him contacting you. If it has been 6 months (for most states), they will put something in the newspaper to give him a chance to appear in court and if he doesn't, then usually they will grant the termination. This means you could never get child support from him but he wouldn't get visitation nor any other fatherly rights.

Wow, I didn't think there was actually any options in this area. Glad to see there may be.

Wow, I missed that! You are right, and a married man is considered the father even if they were separated 5 years with no contact until paternity is unestablished. The law needs revisions in some of its aspects.

Is your ex's name on the birth certificate?

I just had to show that to my lawyer to prove I'm the father.

He is not on the birth certificate. I had no way of locating him after he left.
