I am New to SFV |
Hi, I've been looking into obtaining a passport for my son because I am graduating school and would like to be open to employment worldwide. The issue is that I haven't heard from my son's father since July 2004 and don't know where to find him because he has evaded FRO "family responsibility office" so I haven't received child support since March 2005. The last time I talked to the father's mother she told me she was moving and never gave me a forwarding address and phone number, so I can't even ask her where he is. I haven't talked to her since December 2005.
I would ultimately like to get sole custody because the court order from 2003 states that we have joint custody. I just don't know how to go about that. Also to get a passport for my son in the event that we leave the country(we are currently in Ontario, Canada) do I need anything from the father to get this documentation and can I leave the country without notifying him, even though I can't find him at present. Thank you Amy |

Welcome to the forums.
You will need documentation to obtain a passport for the child. The good news is that you have a case registered with the FRO. The history is there. Contact a lawyer to help with the process. Here is a government link http://www.justice.gc.ca/en/ps/sup/ and here is a link that has a bunch of different help links in there. http://www.owjn.org/issues/child/qa.htm good luck to you. http://asingleparents.com/donation.html Donate to support the site. The problem is getting the passport, you can leave the country as long as you give a change of address to the court, you are still required to comply with visitation but since he is not doing it you should be ok.
I think, given the circumstances is better to get full custody, but, if you go to court and tell the judge that you can't find him I'm sure he'll issue something so you can obtain a passport, you probably have to put an add on the paper or something. But what do I know, I'm just a truck driver |
