I am New to SFV |
This is my first time writing anything on these boards, and I'm getting so frustrated with government websites that aren't informative at all. I'm hoping someone can help me out who is familiar with PA law. I am pregnant and due on March 16...A little girl and very excited!! Unfortunately, the father and I did not date very long--only a few months. I did not want the relationship with him, but wanted him to have a relationship with his daughter and have done nothing but try to involve him and accomodate him. He has been wavering since he found out about the pregnancy...All along he has demonstrated an "all or nothing" attitude. He really doesn't want to be a "part-time dad" so instead he prefers to not be a dad at all. Yeah, it makes no sense to me either. But he recently told me he is willing to terminate his parental rights if I'd like him to. I don't want him to continue to waver in and out of our lives, so I would like for him to give up his rights. He adds nothing but drama. But I read a post from someone in another state who said termination of rights can still mean child support payments. The PA websites are giving me no help, and I was hoping someone could help me out. If the father terminates his rights (doesn't this mean admitting he's the father--which he does deny and we're getting a paternity test) can he still be eligible to pay child support? If it comes down to either-or, I'd rather get no money from him and have him give up his rights, but child support would really help out too.
Thanks so much!! |

Well some people dont know this and think if they terminate their rights its the end to child support which in the majority of states this isnt true.
If this was true dead beats would be doing this istead of going to jail and having to live with the consequences of not paying. terminating his rights basically he has no rights as far as visitation and custody or any legal matter when it comes to his daughter. |

That was an informative website and it actually gave an answer in the FAQs that sounded like even if a biological father gives up his rights, he can still be ordered to pay child support. That is very hopeful news for me. If anyone else can lead me in any direction to finding a clear-cut answer, please do so!

Glad it helped a little, I would also recommend messages.yahoo Go to the legal section, I think it's under politics. Arrears owed to the state for public assistance must be paid back, non-public assistance are negotiable.

Hi I am new to this website and I saw your question and thought that I was going through almost the same thing. I was recently dating a guy that I have known and liked for 21 years, and I found out I was pregnant in August of course by him. I told him that I was pregnant and he didn't know what to do about it. He was married, but almost divorced with 2 children. He called me for a couple of weeks after I told him and he sounded like he wanted to really work it out, but his grandma told me that he had a new girlfriend. So within that week that I told him, he picked up a bar fly and has been dating her ever since and now he is going to move in with her. He is pretty much an alcoholic and the only time we ever had *** is when he came over drunk. I too have heard from some people from work that if he signs off all his rights that I could still get child support somehow, but I don't know much about it. Could you please help me with what you have found out. I really don't want him to be a part of my baby's life at all. I too am due in March.
Thank you so much! April |
