Single mom of 6 yr old & newborn. Understandable my son is going to be jealous, so I spent some special time w/ him on Thursday. I dread everyday now because I know we're going to go round an round about anything & everything. It it wearing me out! Anyone have any tips/clues/hints to help deal w/ this?! And is this common of a 6 yr old? I heard it was but not sure..

Hmmm...it's been a while for me...but I seem to remember with my kids that is WAS pretty normal.

What I did was turn the tables on them...( as each had this problem) and tell them that I needed their help to get ready.

Like...helping pick out things for the baby, helping paint....anything fun...or that could be MADE FUN (with the help of a trip to the ice cream store Razzer) that could include him or her.

When serious adult conversation issues came up (which can cause a 6 yr olds eyes to glaze over pretty quickly) , periodically the attention was shifted over to him or her... ie. should we open a separate saving account for the new baby? I think so, "childs name here, what do you think?". Smiler

The whole intent being to try to involve the older children as much as possible and make it a POSITIVE thing.

Hope that helps. Razzer

I'm a man of many mysteries and sides....SO many I'm practically round!!

I had a 2 year old with this problem. My daughter is 5 months now and my son is finally getting used to her and is not so jealous anymore. It just takes time. I wish you luck. Smiler
