"Doing what I can" SFV JUNKIE!!! |
Kai has started hitting, biting more, and scratching. I tell her no and try to explain to her, well as much as you can explain to an 11 month old, that it hurts, OW! She just laughs and continues to do this. I dont know what to do. I guess I am hoping it's a phase but man, it gets so frustrating when she keeps doing it, especially when she goes to bed. I try to get her to go to sleep and she just smacks me upside the head and laughs. LOL, I try not to laugh but sometimes I just can't help it. Anyone have any suggestions? :thanks:

"Needs to Get Life" At A loss for Words - NOT! |
Walk away...... no words just walk away everytime she does it.
There is a thread here on this topic from about a month or two ago, trying to remember where it was or what it was called. I think though if Kai thinks it is all in fun, even if you say no.... maybe the best thing to do is show her when she does it mommy isn't next to her anymore. |

That's ok though.... that's the point. She'll realize it especially if she's one to cry or scream when you walk away.

She picked up a little noise from Grace while we were on vacation. This whiney noise when she wants something or doesn't get her way. I try to ignore it but she does it anyway. LOL see what happens when you visit Daliland. Catch a virus and some new skills.

"SEEKING: 25th hour & 8th day" At A loss for Words - NOT! |
Bug,
I agree with Sue. First take both her hands in yours get the most serious face you can muster up and say, "ouch, that hurts mommie. Please stop!" If she continues tell her you are leaving and walk away. Straight to you ear plugs and the laughing fit because you had to be so serious. She may not be able to speak or completely understand but she will hear the tone in your voice. Oh the laughing fits will get better and better as she gets older. The strength it takes to maintain composure when your little one has just done something oh so wrong but oh so hilarious... think Supermom(or dad)! |

"Doing what I can" SFV JUNKIE!!! |
I have a feeling you guys are going to be my main source of advice for a long long time.
Tonight she decided that it would be fun to headbunt the front door. After the third time, she started to cry. I picked her up and tried to tell her "ow". She just hugged me and layed her head on my shoulder for a while. But then later tonight she did it again. |

There is something about those little ones that makes them try things, that seem stupid to us, over and over again. It's like, "duh, let's see if I get the same reaction" .. I used to have to go in the other room and laugh until I cried. Now it's just her questions and some things that slip out of her mouth ... a constant source of amusement.

"Board Blazen Parent" At A loss for Words - NOT! |
Bug,
I know it is hard to let her cry especially being the only one, gets easier the more you have.lol I don't think babies can understand at this age actual hurting someone else. Just like her head butting the door, she didn't get it the first time hurting her. Now if you are in the living room with her you can walk out of the room and let her come to you. She will start to understand that everytime she hits or bites mommy she walks away. I have walked into my office and closed the door for one minute and let them cry outside the door, then come out and comfort them. She will start getting the idea and I'll bet it will only take a couple times and she will get better. Good luck. |

I ditto Too many... just walk out for a minute or two and then come back and if she does it again walk out. She's learning cause and effect and once she learns the effect is mommy leaving she won't want to do it... but remember, they don't have long-term memory so it is very possible she'll try it every day or every week for awhile..... or maybe stop and then go back to it, just remember to do the same exact thing as last time.

I am New to SFV |
Hi, my son is three years old and, he throws tantrums in the way i find myself stressed out and, over welmed by his actions. He will throw himself on the ground and, refuse to walk. He screams out i'm a bad mom and, in the whole shell of things it bothers me and, although i've tried time out and, removing his toys and, tv. This did nothing. He kicks, hit's, punches ect. I don't know if this is all age n stage kinda thing but, if any of you have dealt with this please share your thoughts. I would so appreshiate it.
