Scripture Reading: Luke 13:10-13

This story is a perfect example of God's grace and attentiveness toward us. One day, Jesus was in the synagogue, while there HE noticed a woman. This woman had been afflicted with an illness from the enemy and she couldn't stand straight. The Bible calls it "bent double". This illness prevented her from being able to look up. Can you imagine that? Walking through life looking at the ground and people's feet!

But Jesus, in all His sweetness, noticed her, He saw her in her affliction. For whatever reason, she didn't call out to Him. Surely she knew who He was. He was drawing crowds wherever He went. However, she asked Him for nothing. Could she have been shy? Could she have been concerned about the opinions of the scribes? Perhaps she was ashamed of her condition. Whatever reason the reason she remained silent. She was simply going on about her business at the synagogue.

There's a Eureka!

She was where? She was at church! Lots of people when they are going through trouble they stay home and pout. Not her, intentionally or unintentionally, she was positioned where the Spirit of the Lord was!

Now for the minding-blowing part. Jesus, being so compassionate and kind, saw that one of His beloved daughters was hurting. That's when He did what most of us long for. He noticed her! Many of us have spent a huge portion of our lives being unnoticed. Once He saw his daughter's need, He couldn't help Himself. He had to fix it immediately.

He Sees You

Like that woman in the synagogue, many of us have been afflicted, we've been injured. Either by bad relationships, or by betrayal, or maybe just by society - we've been afflicted and we can't look up. Our past wounds are so heavy that we live life with hung heads and defeated spirits. When we see couples holding hands in the mall. We look down. When we hear those sermons about divorce and single parents. We look down. When we see our ex's going forth with their new wives and girlfriends. We hang our heads.

God wants you to know that now is the time for you to look up. He sees you. He sees where you are hurting and He wants to fix it for you. His work on the cross demolished all strongholds on your life. You are free! You don't have to be frightened to bring your broken heart to him. Go ahead, bring your affliction. He will gladly fix it, after all, He already sees you.

Thank you Leftie for posting this. The widow with the oil also comes to mind. All she had left was her sons and some oil and she was so in debt that they were going to take her sons away. But becasue she was persistent in her asking of God for help, she was told by a profit to go find jars and pour her oil into them. The oil kept on flowing and she had to go around the town to ask for more jars. She ran out of jars before she ran out of oil. she was able to repay her debt, keep her sons and still had some left over. That is how God does. If we are in need, and we ask, he provides.
