Any other parents out there raising their kids in a "nontraditional" religion? I practice Kemetic religion; my 'second family' in Texas is Wiccan. I plan to raise my daughter in one of these traditions (especially with the name Maatkare - named for the pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty) and wondered who else is in the same boat.

My husband's ex-wife practices Wiccan and is raising my step-children in the religon. My husband is catholic but he has no problem with them being taught both religions and making a decision when they get older what religion or if any they want to follow. The only problem that we have run into with her teaching the children through the Wiccan religion has been at school. Becuse there are so many closed minded people in the world my step-sons have been made fun of for the religion. Mainly becuase they went around saying that thry were witches and that mommy's coven could cast spells on people. But we are trying to teach them that religion is a a personal thing and when they are older they should voice their opinion when they know more about the Wiccan religion. But I wish you luck on raising them in your religion, it is sometimes hard to let our children be raised in a different culture or religion becuase of the ramifications from other children being mean and only being followers.

Chiming in pretty late on this post, but i'm Wiccan as well. I stand firm on free will and have no intention on raising my daughter as anything. Before chosing my path, I studied theology intensly and will educate her when I feel she's old enough to understand. Until then, she knows about "god" and that "god" made everything on earth. I explain the cycle of life as simply as I can.

Man is ultimately flawed....and therefore not a absolute deity to be honored or worshipped.

And without God, ( in some form ) If you stand for "nothing", you'll fall for "anything".

As we, "Americans" have seen many Countries do, in the past & recent history.

I raise my children to believe in themselves, yes, but there is also a higher power out there.......

My best friend is Wiccan and is raising her children in her religion, it is very interesting and I have been doing some studying on it. When I go to church it is to a non-denominational church, I can not stand religions that tell you HOW you are supposed to believe or that their church is THE "true" church....who is to know? It is what YOU believe, and I believe in god.

What I believe is you want to incite and antangonize...I for one, will no longer comply.

"If you argue with only yourself, Who has won?"

Well....I'm the thinking WE ( the SFV family ) should divorce YOU...since we apparently are nowhere near your LEVEL in intelligence.... We obviously NOT good enough for people such are yourself.

So GoodBye to You....Norweigan_Mom ...You are not worth my time and energy....As I'm sure you'll agree.

I'm sorry, but I just don't buy it. No matter how bad one's english is, a slam is still a slam. I think that PJ has the jist of things. Norwegian mom, if you would like to talk about your troubles (other then political or religious) or ask for significant advice then I will be glad to oblige...other then that, i'm washing my hands. I sure would like to give you the benefit of the doubt, but it sure is hard.

Well...probably because that's the way the media she has access to, portray the actions of the US military that have occurred in her lifetime. Really, I think you all are passing up an opportunity to glimpse world opinions here, as well as an opportunity to change them (PS NorMom...did my last post in the other thread do anything to convince you that the US invasion is not about going to war for God?).

As for the existence of God stuff: Understand that it is difficult for Atheists to hear people discussing their religions, knowing that if we discuss/justify our lack of religion it'll pi$$ everyone off. Understand it's hard for us to hear how we "stand for nothing," when a lot of us are good people who often take stands for what is right. I do keep silent about my opinions, for the reasons I stated in my post, but it's really not fair that I have to.

As for your posting about politics and religion Norwegian Mom...I think you're making a good decision to stop posting about those topics Smiler Hopefully the board can forget about all this and let you have a fresh start. Really...banning religion and politics on SFV might not be a bad idea; maybe just post a link to one of the *many* other boards out there already set up to discuss those topics.

Later,
Bobby

Heh...are those rules for bars? I dunno...I really haven't spent much time in them. Politics and religion really are topics that can cause anger and hurt feelings though. Fortunately my feelings are bulletproof Razzer

Thanks for responding to me BTW...I was feeling invisible.

Later,
Bobby
