I am supposed to start nursing school on August 25th, but I am a single mother of two kids. How am I going to support them. I would think that there would be more help for us single mothers out there, but I am just not finding them. This posting is my desparate plea for some help. I have applied on FASFA ... school is paid for. How do I pay my car payment, my rent, daycare, etc? There has to be an angel out there this is scheduled to be sent my way.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked into student loans? There are several that you can take out and they are VERY helpful! Also you may want to ask the financial aid office if there are any fee waivers for residents. Also ask and see if there is a program for those with a greater need. I would have no idea what it is called but I know that there is one at the school I go to in Cali and that there is a program at a school in Oklahoma. Just ask! They'll let you know. But definately look into the student loans. Hope that helps a little. Best of luck!

Hi everyone, my name is Faren and I am new to Single Family Voices. I am mother to one almost 6 year old little girl. I had my daughter my senior year of college and up until the last two years have done "okay" Roll Eyes financially. I took a position working with pregnant and parenting teens (something I really wanted to do) and took a pay cut to do it, with the hopes that my pay would increase. Well it hasn't. So I made the decision to go back to Graduate School, only I have just found out that I am only eligible for loans through my university and nothing else. I don't know where else to turn. I NEED to go back to school but I am afraid now to leave my job and have less money (from the loan refunds) then I do now. I do want to say though that it is great to see so many single parents out here trying to do the same thing.

Just an idea, look for a Displaced Homemaker Grant when it comes to paying for your car, rent, and school financing. Different states have different displaced homemaker grants to apply for.

I looked on the net about the Displaced Homemakers Grant. In Virginia it's primarily for Community Colleges and so I wouldn't be eligible since I am going to working on my Masters Degree. Roll Eyes But thanks for that information.

I know exactly what you are going through. I'm 19 with 2 boys (3 & 4) and a girl (6 months. I work everyday and go to college. My sons father is dead and my daughter's father is in jail. I am doing it on my own. It's hard, but I have to do it!

I just wanted to let you know that you can apply for special circumstances to get more money and to get themoney returned to you..you can actually get money for the mileage the babysitter and everything. Just a thought but look into it and look into the sites like fastweb, talking to a financial aid counselor as well a lot of schools have private grants that you can use on whatever you need. I hope this helps. Be faithful and know that God will get you through this!!! I will be praying for you!!

One of my clients told me that Nurses are in such high demand right now that most loans can be "forgiven" if you ask, when you finish school... Also, President Bush put out a special grant for anyone wishing to become a nurse because of the need for them. Hope this helps

For child care you could look to the Department of Health and Human services in your area. I live in Virginia and they sponsor Child Care Vouchers and help you find apropriate care facilities. The department might also be able to find some information on help for rent and anythign else you might need.
