I'm a newly single mom and I'm newly in college full time. I live on child support, food stamps, and a job I make a little money at. Here's the problem. I have two friends who make more in ch. support/income than I do and they qualify and get Medicaid, but I don't. Why??? The only factor I can think of is that maybe there's an exception that when you're in college full time you qualify, even if you don't by income (my income would have to be like $349/month or less my caseworker says). Anyone out there know anything that would help me???

I had the same problem. with medicaid I made nothing but some how was rejected 4 times for medicaid. I would reply and if you get rejected again. Ask for an Appeal. If you don't qualify your child should. Where in Indiana do you live. I know University of Chicago has clinics in NW indiana where they have case workers in the clinic that's sole job is to help you get medical insurance asap. I will look into the information on Indiana's medicade stuff and get back to you. This is my job I do it for a living, I can help you find some loop holes. There is no reason that you shouldn't qualify.

Well thank you. I've looked all over the web and can't find a thing, but I KNOW if my 2 friends have such similar circumstances and do qualify that I should too. One makes more than me and one less. I make around $800-900 per month (yes I live on that) and my kids do get Medicaid.
I had trouble convincing my caseworker that I shouldn't have to go the the Impact classes because I was in college full time (after I insisted she looked it up and I was right) and I wonder if that's where the problem lies. There's just no other factor I can find. Also, the whole point of Medicaid is to cover people who just can't get insurance elsewhere so it only makes sense that the college thing is a factor since it's rare for a person to be able to do both college and work full time.
