Amanda is right, go to the library, look on line, talk to a counselor. The fact that the financial aid office is of no help isn't good....hmmmm.... =) Ask to talk to the supervisor because I know that the people that work at the financial aid office at my school are horrible when it comes to information but if I talk to someone who is incharge or has been there a long time, they know something.
