I haven't found anything about grants for school yet, but I am searching as well. I currently go to school full time, work part time, and am a single mom. If you find any info please inform me and I will do the same. Good luck on your search!

I too have been in your situation and I found a few outlets that might help. I'm returning back to college and in the past have found some of these resources helpful. You can try them if you like and see if it might help. there is low income housing that bases your rent on the amount that you earn a month, another great source is the Pellgrant it is a scholarship that you don't have to pay back and with mine they even figured in transportation costs, babysitting, and my monthly bills, so after i payed for my books i had money left over to use to help pay for a few bills, while receiving the Grant you can then put your money towards bills rather then school. There's the POWER program through the Family Service Dept. that issues a monthly check to families that don't receive child support, LIEAP is a program that helps with your utility bill and is a great help in the winter, what is ever left over that you didn't spend during those months carries over to the summer and could help pay your bills then. If your in a bind right now and need help with rent or whatever need a temp. way to get it is through your Church, Red Cross, the Salvetion Army is a great source for programs,or we have a program in Wy. that is called InterFaith that helps families pay rent, car repairs, etc.. though these are temp and the waiting lists can be lengthy. Check with your school guidance counselor for various scholarship programs that you don't have to pay back, one that i liked was a Social Worker Scholarship that payed for nearly everything and you had to agree to work for them for one to two years right before or after you graduate, which was great,as a job would be there, there are Chapter org. that will help with school and you also don't have to pay them back, your college also receives donations from various things, such as donations for those who have passed, when my Step Father passed donations were given to the college and set up to help those low income students with any needs that might arise. A college sholarship book guide is a great resource to use if you can't get an appt. Also with rent assistance get in touch with the housing authority and in our area they can issue monthly check to help pay your rent, without having to reside in low income housing. If you have kids under five, the WIC program is a help with some foods. Get on food Stamps that can help with giving you more money for other bills. I have worked, gone to college for Psychology and had to become familiar with these programs for my family as a sing. mom and for my job in this field. Utilize any assistance that you can get, they are more willing to lend a helping hand knowing your bettering yourself and your kid(s) by going to college. The phone book is another tool under Social Servive Org. that give a listing of Org. to call that could help.
