I was laid off in March and am finding the job market in my area to be sparse. I decided to go back to school. Unfortunately, my divorce did some damage to my credit. Since there are late payments within the last 2 years, I need a cosigner and other loans want an income and I am unemployed. I don't have a cosigner. Any suggestions?
Apply for financial aid thru fafsa.gov I believe. When you get your financial aid packet back, it will tell you what grants, if any you qualify for, as well as any stafford loans you qualify for. My understanding is that your credit has no effect whatsoever on whether or not you qualify for the stafford loans.

Hi, I am new so I hope you don't mind the advice. There are a lot of scholorships for single mothers out there, very few for us fathers. Go to the Dept. of Education web site and check under the aid section. If you can't find it, try www.finacialaid.com it use to have lots of info, however I'm not sure it is still up. Goodluck

hi!! I worked in the financial aid office at the junior college I attended. So far all of the information you have been given is true. apply for federal pell grant at www.fafsa.ed.gov then depending on what school you are looking at attending, you will need to go into their financial aid office at talk with a loan counselor. Lenders of student loans don't look at credit history (if they did, I wouldn't be in school right now!). If you have any more specific questions, please feel free to email me personally if you'd like. davisaggiegirl@hotmail.com Hope that helps and good luck to you, it's not easy at all, but it will be worth it (or so everyone keeps telling me!!) Good luck! Holly
