I am New to SFV |
Hi all and Happy New Year!
I am really excited about an idea that has been brewing in me for sometime and finally taking shape. I am thinking about a daycare that would specifically cater to single parents. Some of the ideas so far are to offer, in addition to traditional childcare, 1 or 2 regularly scheduled weekend or evening care opportunities that would be included in the std. cost of care, parenting classes and a support network. I am looking for your ideas!!! If you could design a daycare for SINGLE PARENTS ONLY, what would you like offered? What would be THE most important service provided? I am really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this. |

Regular evening hours primarily for parents working at night OR occassional evening hours to support single parent's need for a break?
Do you guys think this is a viable idea or just overkill? Would you be interested in a daycare taht said it catered specifically to single parents? |

Now that'd be a great daycare Actually I'm thinking that to cater specifically to single parents, I'd also be thinking about the evening hours. Not just for the occasional night out but for the ones that are working evening shifts. One of the more common issues that are talked about in here for daycare is the inability, or extreme difficulty in finding daycare for the odd shifts. Typically married/cohabitating parents can fill their own void if one works evenings since odds are the other parent would be home to watch the child. Single parents however are left with little options particularly when there aren't family members nearby to count on. And there's also the afford ability issue for many single parents. From a business aspect, I would also be concerned with location. Would there be enough single parents in need of daycare to fill the available spaces. Seems some areas already have more than enough daycare options while others seem to have more difficulty finding any available daycare |

I was mentioning evening hours on a regular basis. I work nights and it is hard to find child care on nights and weekends. If you do this and offer evening and weekend hours, advertise to restaurant employees. My staff alone could fill a daycare.
