Getting My Feet (Board) Wet
Posted
im 18 years old and im 17 weeks pregnant with a boy. i live in florida, originally from north carolina. i moved with my aunt so she could help me while im pregnant. i am working but the problem is i really want to keep my son but i don't have anywhere to go after he is born. if anyone has any information about where i may get some help please let me know. i don't want to be on welfare and i want my son to be in a safe place. any suggestions would be great!

swallow your pride and get on welfare, i am and it doesnt bother me, also check about housing like section 8 and things like that.Look in your phone book there might be some type of place like a shelter for you and your baby go for a while until you have a place to go. i also know where i live if you go to a shelter claiming you have no where to go and you stay for 30 days they put you in an emergency housing(they find you a home that doesnt cost much a month). But if you decide o give your son up that is another good choice there is nothing wrong with that there are many people trying to have children and cant, they would be so happy to have your son.i was never in that situation but i wish you the best of luck in you desision.God bless you and your beautiful baby boy.

I always said I would never let my life lead me to where I needed to be on welfare and live in public housing. Well...life happened and here I go. LOL! It doesn't have to be bad. I'm actually glad it's there now. This way I can go to college, get a degree, and have a better life for my child.

im sorry if i came across like i was trying to be proud or arrogant or something like that. i dont think im too good for welfare or public houseing. im scared that i will end up in a rough neighboorhood. i dont want my child to grow up with that. its gonna be hard enough on him not having a father around much less having to deal with gang violence or drugs. i just want him to be safe and the though of having to sacrifice that scares the hell out of me.

its nice to see you u are already caring about your baby's future there are alot of mothers that think that raising there child to be a gangsta is cute but in the long run they will regret it.i see girls taking there baby's with them to go out to party and hang out with them outside all hours of the night when their child should be safe in bed. but really where you live doesnt always have an effect on your lifestyle ive seen people straight out the projects going to college making a life then i see kids that live in rich quiet neighborhoods that sells drugs do drugs and do other bad things.its mainly influence from friends.but dont get me wrong living in a bad nieghborhood does effect some kids.even if living in public housing for year or two while u get your life together, your child wont know the differance because he will still be young.girl it is so hard and i feel your pain.i just wish u the best of luck in everything you do.its nice to see u know your son comes first.let me get going my son is acting up

no i totally agree with you. some of the people you would never expect could be some of the worst ones. and im not sayin that good people dont come from bad places or neighboorhoods. i didnt come form a rich neighboorhood. we barely got by. my mom was on federal assistance and i dont think theres anything wrong with it. i just want more for him than what i had and im determined that im gonna give it to him. there might be a time when i have no other choice but to do that but right now all i can do is try and pray with everything i have that it doesnt come to that. but like i said again...im sorry if i offened anyone before and i think any girl who chooses to raise her child the right way no matter how she has to do it is a great person and deserves to be admired.

My mom started out taking care of me in the projects and we are doing pretty well now. She has a new husband who treats me like his own a great job and shes happy! Don't worry about where you start out. What matters is where you end up! Best of luck to you! ~Nikki
