My baby girl is 2 months old.(god time flies) I know I'm suppose to give her tummy time, but she HATES it. At first I figured it was just something she needed to get use to,but she still throws a fit every day. Is this normal?

Some babies love it, and some babies don't. as long as she is holding her head up well I don't see a problem because time on their stomachs can help to build neck muscles and can help with learning mobility tactics like learning to roll, creep, etc.

Plus, I was never one to freak out over crying. For awhile, that is the only exercise they get as long as they are not hurting.

Sometimes babies don't like it if they have air bubbles in their stomachs. Try burping her before tummy time.

Also, tummy time can be strenuous for some. As her muscles develops, she'll start to enjoy this.

She does hold her head up pretty good thankfully. I never thought about gas bubbles (der da der!),so I'll try burping her tomorrow and see if that helps any.

Thanks! Smiler

Haydn hated it when he was that age. My midwife said to encourage it but if he did not like it then not to worry. He still did all the other things at the normal age and had great head control.

I don't know how you are doing your tummy time but with my kids I would sit way back in the recliner and put them on my tummy. Tummy to tummy. This way they had to lift their head to look at me. They do get tired quick, and I would keep this in mind. 2-3 minutes might be it depending on the baby.

Yep,the only way I can get her to do it is when she's on my tummy. She still hates it any other way.

Don't they learn to roll over when they are on their belly,or is doing from their back just as easy the first time?

I think rolling from your back takes a more effort but they do start rolling over from their backs OK.

I had 2 out of mine that rolled from there backs first but it took them a little longer than from the belly first. It depended on how they would sleep better. They slept fine on there backs so I kept them there. The others would not sleep fine on there backs after about 2 months so I did not keep them there. If that makes sence. Either way she will start rolling when she is ready and not before. At 2 months I would not worry about it to much. Now by 4-5 months could be a different story. Babies do things in there own time and that is not always a sign that something is wrong.

Some babies hate to be on their tummy. I had a nurse tell me that I should only put my daughter on her tummy for a few mintues, like 1-2. then pick her up before she gets scared. I also get on the floor close to her and always have my hand on her back and when she picks her head up and moves it to the other side i am there to meet her so she doesnt get scared. She is a month old and is able to pick her head up and move it from one side to the other. It's really weird because the day she was born she was able to hold her head up for a little bit. My daughter was 10 days late and she was a big girl, also very long. My Doctor tells me she is very strong and looks like she is three months old. When she was born she looked like a month old.
