Okay, so we all know how this feels..we've hit a major milestone in our house today! My little man, one of two angels that house my heart, well..he went potty on the big potty today! It was the first time ever and I am totally thrilled! We went out yesterday to buy him a seat that would fit on our toilet and a step stool. He didn't seem afraid of sitting on it yesterday, but he wasn't into it at all. Well I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth this afternoon and he went and started acting as if he was going to place the seat on the toilet. I helped him and told him if he wanted to go he needed to pull his pants down, and he attempted. I helped him with those too and sat him up on the seat. He's so very tiny still that he has to be placed way back onto the seat for fear of mess. Roll Eyes

Anyhow, while I was watching him he wouldn't do a thing and acted like he wanted back off the chair, but then I turned my head to holler something at the dog and I heard Lil B go! I cheered for him so big and told him how very proud I was of him. He's only 22 months right now, so I figure I'll let him continue to show interest and keep teaching him the dialogue at this point. I'm just so pleased that he wanted to feel as if he was doing it without being watched. That really shows how independent he is. Sierra always wanted me right there sitting next to her and coaching her along. I much prefer being able to turn my head!

Oh boy, yours and his first step out of diapers. I have to admit I am tired of them myself and can't wait to see my youngest going potty. Good for him and you. :balloon: :balloon:

Thanks guys! Now he just laughs at me and when I ask him if he is going to go...he says "No" and grins. I think he wasn't too thrilled about the potty...now I have to make it a big deal.

Just wondering ..does he tell you when he has to go at all ? My lil' one (31 months) has been going on the toilet for a while, but he never tells me before he has to go. I just ask him to go at every diaper change. But at this point I am a bit desperate because he never tells me BEFORE, and if I do let him go w/o diapers he ALWAYS ends up peeing his pants, and doesn't even care much (he does tell me after though, when everything's wet). So, I am wondering when does that next step happen. ?..we're kind of under pressure too, because he has to be out of diapers this summer, for school. Now we're in a phase where he says NO, he prefers to have a diaper like a baby (his words). Frowner

LOL...I trained my daughter somewhat like a puppy. Every two hours or so I sat her down. When she was old enough to reason (as it sounds like your son is) rewards help. I started with reese's piece's (candy) to get her to telling me when she had to go, which she was telling me even when she didn't have to for candy! Then we moved to stickers on a calendar that was hand-drawn with whatever picture she asked me to draw for that month. As well...#2 was hard b/c they get really scared, so I would sit her up there with a book to "read" until she'd just forget that she wasn't wearing a diaper and go.

Each child is different, and I hear boys are really hard...I'm just learning that one.

As for another great Milestone in our household....Sierra read me a book today! She sounded out all the words and needed very little help. They were 3 and 4 word sentences and I'm so proud!

That's great !
I think there are little milestones every single day: the day Ian came to breakfast with his slippers on (I ask him not to go bare foot b/c it's cold now), that was also a great milestone for me. Ridiculous for others, but little steps on the way to independence in my eyes.

I agree, and sometimes the little hurdles are the hardest to acheive!

Braeden used the big potty again today...we're on the right track Big Grin I think he might continue on this road if he gets to run around without a diaper for a few minutes here or there. That boy is getting hard to chase down!

Big Grin Sierra had been potty trained an entire year before she had another accident. Then she would go into the bathroom but messed on the floor rug instead. I just didn't understand why, but then I realized that we had some life changes around that time. She was regressing in response to her emotions. Of course, she was 3 at the time and not quite as young. Braeden sometimes has spells where he wakes up several times a night for weeks with no explanation, even though I got him sleeping through the night at about 3 months. I think that our children just don't express themselves with words..but actions.
