At A loss for Words - NOT!
Posted
i hesitate writing in this forum cuz it seems no one scrolls down this far, but am trying to post in the right spots since Don mentioned about 'cleaning up the forum'

soooo, here's my scoop. i have a crib with bumpers around the sides. i had an ocean wonders light that played music. faith kept hitting her head against it (mounted at highest level) so i removed it.

now she hits her head against the crib where the thingie used to be. her tears seems pretty geniune that it hurt as compared to 'pick me up tears' which i do anyway - lol.

any suggestions as to how to get her to stop banging her head against the crib so i can stop banging mine against the wall?

Have you tried a different bumper or possibly putting a pillow or cushion of sorts there so that when she does bump her head at least it doesn't hurt. Something else, have you ever thought that she was "bumping" her head out of admiration for the light? You know like animals do when they love something they tend to rub against it....Maybe since Mommy's a cougar, daughter's a cub?? LMFAO...just a thought

yay! joey found my post here in the boonies!
1 - OMG of course, that makes perfect sense - she likes the light/toy thing. no it hadn't dawned on me, i just assumed she was a spaz. but it really hurt her...
2 - the pillow thing scared me with all the suffocation things they tell you not even to give the poor kid a blanket - even my AC is set really low so she does not get cold
3 - come to NJ and I'll show you a cougar - roarrrrr! Wink

ok, so now i know why she does it, but am still afraid of how to fix it. has anyone else used pillows (other than when trying to reason with an ex?)

You could buy her one of those cute little helmets that she could wear to bed...just be careful to make sure that you get one that won't choke her...

funny.

but i really am worried about this. i called a friend of mine who said he'd rather see his kids hit thier head on a plastic toy/light thingie than the wooden crib.

i am now even more perplexed. it was so much easier when we coslept.

How hard is she hitting her head?? Could you possibly try to locate a mobile/light that is plush or soft that you could try?? Then she would hit her head on something soft at least....

you know, that is a FABULOUS idea!

she hits it hard enough to have that silent cry with a look of "how could you mommy?" which after about 3 seconds goes in to a full out wail with real tears.

i'll surf a bit for a plush thing that makes sounds and lights - you are so smart. thanks joey - not just another pretty face after all - hee hee hee

what is so great about SFV is that folks can tell you the most obvious thing - plush thing - and not make you feel like an idiot for not thinking of it yourself.

she has the cute glow worm with pink cheeks but can not yet squeeze it hard enough to make it sing.

she looooooves lily and leap who count and do the alphabet but they dont provide the flickering light.

i'll surf around and find something. one with a mirror would really rock her vain little world LOL

Could it be that your little angel has figured out that when she smacks her head on something, Mommy comes running and picks her up making all kinds of soothing sounds for her? Smiler

km - thanks for lookin them up.

amy - let's make one thing perfectly clear up front - the infant child is significantly smarter than the fossil adult - really only wish i were kidding there... Confused

it is a very logical assumption. however, i come running for cries without head banging. i am realllllly trying to let her cry for 5 minutes before going in there, i know, i know, but the longest i've made it is still under 3 mintues. i know, i know, i have the willpower of a kentucky prom date. ugh. i know that she has "had" me when i pick her up and she instantly stops crying and while i cant prove it, i think there's a smirk...

it is a whole different cry when she hits her head, and there are real tears in her eyes. she is exactly like me - poor thing - fights sleep because she does not want to miss a thing, never sits still, and is a total dork hitting things when she's trying to be graceful. (i am really not getting down on myself just embracing my inner dork and learning to love her silly flaws and all.)

Right but this is one she KNOWS you'll show up for. LOL

Kinda reminds me of my genius daughter at the age of 2. I was chatting with a couple friends and I guess we weren't paying enough attention to her. She's running around being silly and WHAM! she runs straight into the wall. Now being the loving and caring mother I am, I immediately burst into laughter...lol. You could almost see the lightbulb go on over her head so she did it again and again because we were all laughing at her and most importantly LOOKING AT HER...LOL.

She's learning how much control she has over her environment, including you. **** she might be doing it out of frustration because she can't get out of the damn crib to get to you....lol. I'm wondering if there isn't something you could pad the bars of her baby-jail with so she can get as frustrated as she wants but she won't hurt herself in the process. I'll have to do a little research.......

Ok so nothing on padding for crib bars but do you know anybody who can sew? You could get some quilt padding and wrap it around the bars, covering it with some pretty material. Hmmmm....I'm checking the US patents.....I think I'm on to something here.

you make it, i'll buy it. well, depending on the price of course... but it sure is a good idea. like padded strips with velcro so you can wrap the crib bars individually. some with varying widths for the fancier schmancier cribs. you really may be on to something wonderful here. ssshhhhh let's not tell anyone Smiler
