I would call a dr. and ask weather or not a seeing nerouigist should be considered. I know he's nly one but does he have any other symptoms soes he like beinmg around people, does he actually feel pain or have a low tolerance for pain, does he have any self stimulatory behaviors like spinning, rocking, arm flapping or lining up objects ? Some kids do just do things like this at times but I wouldnt just brush it under the carpet incase its a symptom of something else. I know it must be scary when he passes out but I hope you realize it's his bodys why of insuring that he doesn't hold his breath for too long. So at least you know the passing out is not as bad a thing as it I imagine must be scary. I have seemn older kids do that as temper tantrumand to get a reaction form a parent but never a child as young as 1yr.

Courage doesnt always roar, sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying "I will try again tomorrow."

My daughter is 3 and sometimes when she's being reprimanded she will pinch her arm and then cry. her fits aren't so bad as holding her breath and passing out but she does throw some good ones. My best friend's little girl actually cries so hard and loud that she ends up throwing up.

I say call the doctor cause that's scary!

When I was 13 I babysat for a neighbors little girl who was about 2 and 1/2 or 3. She always held her breath until she passed out and she would pee her pants. Then she would come to and cry and want a hug. It was bazarre. I don't know if anything was wrong with her but her parents trusted her with me alone and never told me she had a medical problem. They said temper tantrums and that was it. She seemed like a perfectly normal little girl. She just liked to hold her breath when she was angry until she passed out. And everytime she would wet her pants.
I would let the doctor know though. Better to be safe than sorry.

Jennie.

thats very normal for a 1 year old boy. blow in his face the next time and watch him start breathing again. you will feel like god. no but seriosly my youngest did that and its not that the stop breathing on prourpose but its that they get to cry so hard they loose thier breath. then turning purple. also i have trained my boys to relise that if they want to throw a fit they do it like a real Blair..... on thier feet. they will not throw them selves down. lol if they want to throw a temeper tantrim they do it standing like a man. try making him stand up when he throws a fit. it ruins the whole idea for a kid to trow a fit and takes away most the danger of him hitting his head on the floor

i think the best option is to call a doc a child psychiatrist or something but i think she is too young to see a child psychiatrist

I like the idea of cold water...LOL it sounds cruel but it will distract him, and each time he will think of doing it, he will think twice...providing he doesn't like the cold water.

It beats having him passing out...
