"I want back in the closet" Lively & Zealous Parent |
A little back ground, I have a 5 1/2 yr old little boy. I'm looking for others opinions and suggestions.
1) My son always sits down to pee (he learned from me). I don't want him to get picked on when he gets older. Should I try teaching him how to pee stand-up or when he gets into going into the mens room will he just fingure the whole urinal thing out? Not to mention all the fixtures in out bathroom are pink (I find it funny). 2) He still wears pull-ups to bed. I don't let him have anything to drink an hour before bed. I tried waking him every 4 hours during the night, but he still managed to pee in between. Not to mention we were both very tried the next day. I do not allow him to have caffiene or sugary drinks since they can make you have to pee more. Thanks for you help. |

As for the pull-ups, I would suggest talking to his pediatrician. His bladder just may not be all that developed yet. I use to make Ty stop drinking an hour before bedtime and go to the bathroom right before bed. He has rarely had accidents since he was about 2 1/2 years old. He's more aware of what is going on in his body now and knows to get up or hold it through the night w/o even realizing it.
As for the sitting down, I never had that problem w/him either. I tried to teach him sitting down because that was the easiest way I knew to teach him obviously. Somehow from daycare, my step-dad and my younger brothers, he learned to stand all on his own. Guess I wasn't too helpful, huh? Sorry! |

I would not worry about the standing up part. Think about it do you really want him to stand at home? Then you have to clean the floor more when he misses. If he sits at school and things he will be in a stall so no one will be the wiser. He will figure it out as he goes.
As far as wearing pull ups at night I would check with your doctor like Ty's mom said. This is not unusual at his age but not exactly normal either. Hope it helps. |

Oh, toomany2count, I can't believe I forgot about the mess on the floor. I hate to even walk by Ty's bathroom, but have to to be able to get to my bedroom. That is serious, and my mom says they never stop that. EEEEWWWWW!!!

Can't wait for all of this. I'm getting Braeden used to the Easy Ups and stand up diapers right now. He's always in the bathroom with me talking about going potty or poo and tells me to use the toilet paper (it's really funny.) He loves the word EWWW in the bathroom too. The worst part of him learning about the bathroom is the day he decided to open the toilet and stick his hand in. He found out that I'd wash his hands after and liked that...so now he tries that every time he gets the opportunity!
As for the standing up part, I think you should educate him. If you teach him how to aim and clean up after himself (that's maybe the key) its better than him learning at school that its ok to spray everywhere right? |

I am having a situation with my nephew and not only peeing but he is going #2 in his pants as well.I should mention that he is 3 yrs old and has a rip in his bowels so he tends to poo a little in his pants not realizing it and he can get an operation when he is 5 but he doesn't even try to go to the bathroom when he knows he has to go either pee or poo I have tried everything I can think of so if you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them
Oh and about the whole pee on the floor thing my sister has 4 boys and a husband and she swears that they don't ever try to aim in the toilet they prefer to pee on the floor LOL |

that makes me mad, especially when they don't clean up. not funny. I believe I would not clean up after them to teach them, especially if the husband does it too.

Oh, man.. Where's JD when you need him?
I taught Jack to sit as well. Like you said, it's how I learned. But when JAck finially did learn how to pee standing up, he was thrilled!!! You need to stop denying that little boy on the best thing about being a guy!! I wish I could pee standing up... It was actually messier when he sat down. His little unit pointed horizontally when he sat, and everything shot straight out towards the wall. I love raising a boy. |

Perhaps winter is a good time to teach them to aim? In the snow? Sorry..a movie I watched and a bad Bill Clinton joke came to mind...

I really think it depends on the boy. My oldest picked up the standing while you pee right up. He is good at aiming as well. Cleans up after himself but forgets to flush the toilet...go figure.
Now my middle son was so small he couldn't stand while peeing when he first started. He was too short to reach the bowel. He did however figure out that he could pee standing up outside. My neighbor screamed the first time she saw him do it...lol. Now that he is older and can reach the bowel he could care less where he aims it but always flushes the toilet...lol My middle son also has the chore of cleaning up the bathroom since he has the nastiest habits. I am hoping that if he has to clean it up enough times he will stop. I guess my recommendation would be let him have a go at it outside where it doesn't matter where he aims. |

Currently, its probably to cold for peeing outside, but come summer if I let him pee outside and my neighbors go freakish, you've all got my back right!
Maybe that will be how I meet my neighbors. |

We used to make fun of my friend back home who let her son drop trow anywhere in the yard. Of course, she lived right across the street from the only post office and hardware store in a "1 horse town." It's definitely a way to meet the neighbors - perhaps informing them of the technique prior to attempting it?

Leftover - That was my uncles suggestion!!
I hate men who leave the seat up. All my male friends know when you are at my house, you put it back down. Which is one of my main concerns with my son standing up. With my luck, he'll either never put it up or he'll never put it back down. Why are no males responding, with stories of learning how to pee standing up |
