I have a 6.5 mo old son and i started feeding him solids about two months ago. I dont feed them to him everyday tho because it seems like it constipates him and it doesnt seem like it matters what it is either.I know they say give them juice to help keep a balance but he doesnt like it. Is there anything else i can do? Also,i have a hard time getting him to eat solids too.He likes vegetables but hates fruit, which is really strange from what ive heard. But even when i try to feed him vegetables he only wants to eat like 3 or 4 spoonfuls and then thats it. I even try feeding him at different times throughout the day just to see if i can find a time when hes hungrier. Im starting to get the feeling that hes just not that interested in solids and is fine with bottles only. Should i try starting over by just giving him cereal, then slowly re-introduce him to solids again? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What an adorable baby you have there.

I started to introduce solid food to my baby at about the same time. Is your baby breast-fed, or strictly formula or both? Introducing solid foods to my little one was a pain in the you know what! But eventually he began to like what I was giving him. I'd say just keep experimenting, eventually you and the baby will get the hang of it. One thing that I did, was feed him whatever I was eating. I'd take portions ans put them in the food processor. This made sure that the food was the right consistency.

I'd say that your doing just fine right now. It doesn't hurt to experiment with different foods. At 6.5 months old, his taste buds are still trying to figure everything out. Just keep experimenting with the RIGHT kinds of food. He may not like something now, but perhaps later he would. My lil guy didn't like applesauce until after about 2 weeks later of trying every other day. Just keep doing what you're doing, the both of you will catch on very quickly.

One more idea for ya:

When I was trying to get my son to eat brocolli and he wouldn't (which who would at that age?), I would take a spoonful myself and say "mmmmm, good" and smile. Eventually he thought it would be fun to eat brocolli like me and now he loves it.

Some infants don't like the smooth/chunky combinations in the baby foods [ie: tomato paste with pasta bits]. Try and avoid those for now. Experiment with all sorts of food. It wouldn't hurt to start off with the baby cereals. As for constipation, feed him apple sauce. It'll loosen him up. Its normal for infants to be constipated since their bodies aren't used to real food yet. If he gets the runs, feed him bananas. It helps with that.

When my first was 6 months I had just quit nursing her and the doctor told me to start with cereals first. Then after sometime, when the baby is not filling up that way add one type of food to the diet at a time. For example, add vegetables first, and start with peas or carrots or green beans. You start with one thing, adding more things also one at a time not only to monitor for possible food allergies but to allow their digestive tracts to mature. The doctor also suggested that when you do start to add baby foods to the cereal, start with vegetables because the premise is that they will not like vegetables if you start them on fruits first. I was not totally won over with that but it does seem a fairly logical argument.

Hi and welcome you have an adorable boy there. I have a girl friend that has a girl that could be his twin. Sooo Cute.
Anyway, you have received some great advice and it is all true. Just keep on trucken and trying and he will get the hang of it. If he only takes a couple bits I would call it quits and move on.
I did do things quite differently. To be honest I did not have the patients to sit there and try to feed baby food. It is so messy. I never bought baby food. My kids started solid food when they were able to pick it up and put it in their mouths, small soft pieces of course. Cherrios are great. If they had a lack of nutrition I may have pushed it more. Yours looks very happy and healthy.
As for the constipation if you continue the solid food you could try putting a little more water in his bottle. Not enough to loose nutrition but enough to keep him from being to dry.
Best of luck to you.

I may be wrong...but the last time my son had diarrhea I was told by two doctors to feed him applesauce/applejuice to help stop it. Maybe that's part of the reason your son is getting constipated? As for other solid foods all you can do is try and try again. Sometimes it could take 15 tries of one food before they start liking it. My son was the same way - liking the veggies more then the fruits..now he is almost 2 and it's even harder to find foods that he likes...he changes his mind on a day to day basis lol. As for juice, you really don't need to be in a huge rush to get him started on that. Juice really just fills them up and doesn't supply the nutrients that would be coming from other foods/fluids. Even when you feel it's right to give juice on a regular basis I believe only 4oz a day is recomended. Who knows Smiler I'm not a doctor lol All I can do is pass on info that I've found in my research. If you're really worried the best person to talk to would be your pediatrition..they can help you out with all nutrition info.
