Being a single parent isn't always a choice, however for those of us who have the coice, it is ok, it is very tough decision to make, but most of us who make that choice, do it for our children. In my case my husband is a depressed alcoholic and I don't want my daughter who is 19 mos old to grow up with that. Good luck with your research paper.
