should children be able to cut up their own food. I still cut my girl's stuff for them. They are 7 & 9 but I get some nasty reactions to this. I try to teach them but sometimes it's not the time to try and teach and just doing it is easier. My 9 year old is on her way, she needs help with just the harder stuff but she's now trying on her own. Is this one of those things that it's no one's business and the kids will get it eventually before they are adults. I'm tired of people giving me crap about little things like this. I love my kids and have no problem helping them.

Any advice?

well, little bobby is 11 and still doesn't cut his meat really well. I'll find him trying to shove a huge piece of steak into his motuh, to avoid cutting it a few times. Sometimes he'll be sawing away at it without cutting anything, but then when I make him pay attention to what he's doing he cuts it in seconds. I figure he'll learn before he's an adult, but it's frustrating getting him to develop the skill of *feeding* himself.

Heh...and don't worry about what other people are saying. Your kids aren't their business. Who are these people? Strangers, or people you know?

Later,
Bobby

Ya know, I have some trouble myself, I'm a lefty. Eeker

I don't think they are coordinated enough yet. The women don't seem to have a problem, it's always men, particularly, My so called bf, who has no kids, and the girls dad are the worst. Men think I baby my kids too much, it's sickening.

I get confused then when we are with family or other people and my kids are struggling with it and I do nothing and someone else steps in and does it. I have no problem with it, they're house broke and we got through that and we all probably know how the pressure to get kids potty trained can be! Confused

Thanks for the encouragement, you're right, screw them, it's my kids!!!

Its good to teach the kids to do themselves but if they are not comfortable then you can ask them to keep trying and help them, instead of you doing it yourself always. When will they learn if you do it.
