At A loss for Words - NOT!

Ok, I haven't really talked about my son in a long time so I thought I'd give you all an update on how he's doing.

Recently, he was formally diagnosed with ADHD and with language delays. For the past 6-8 months I've been trying various alternative methods on him and so far it's been working great. For the record, I've been trying: modified diet, omega oils and magnesium.

I just received his kindergarten's second term report card today and was very happy to see the results. It read that he has shown improvements in all areas. He is able to stay focused for increasingly longer periods of time and with encouragement, he's able to accomplish some tasks independently. He's also improving his relationship with others during class time and enjoys playing at various centres.

Also, despite his ADHD dx, the school will continue on giving him the .5 support per day plus language arts center 3 times a week. Here in Canada, he wouldn't normally qualify for support because this diagnoses doesn't receive the adequate funding. It was given to him on loan until his psych-educational assessment was complete. I'm thinking they're planning on keeping the support until the end of the school year. Yeah!! Consider us very lucky. Smiler

Having said that, there are still some areas of concern but he's coming along nicely (compared to what he's been through already).

Also, his school's speech path has finalized his assessment and was able to pin-point some of his challenges and where it's originating from. I'll have to read the report once I get it. Now that we know more about his issues, it'll be easier to set things up for him. I'm so excited!

We had an appointment with the audiologist as well today and it turns out she's interested in testing him for Central Auditory Processing Disorder. The speech path isn't supportive to this but I told her that if the audiologist calls her, to support this motion anyway. If she won't then the audiologist will not be able to carry this through. If all goes according to plan, the testing will start in a couple of weeks. Smiler

Ok, I've been rambling. I'm in high spirits and am glad that things are finally moving forward. I was a little discouraged recently because appointments kept getting cancelled and we were in the lull with the paraprofessional team members. I can breathe now.

So ya, this is my update. I'm sure some of you remember me flooding the boards with all this ADHD talk. lol

Thanks Sue and Don. Ya my face muscles have been a bit sore today .. and well deserved. The best part of today is that during the Audiology appointment, my son did extremely well. Usually he's pretty challenging as he doesn't like doctors probing him. He was very sweet all day .. at school and at the appointment. A good day for sure!

Thanks!
Smiler
