Help!!!
Im a new mom. Everyone is telling me that my 11 week old son sleeps too much. He sleeps 4 or 5 hours, gets up to eat, and goes back to sleep-all day. He also sleeps all night!! Anyone have any advice on how long baby this age should sleep, and do you think there is anything wrong? I just thought it was normal! Some days he stays awake for an hour or so, but thats abot it...should i be concerned?

I personally wouldn't be too concerned about an 11 week old, but if you are, take him to the doctor. Babies sleep alot when they are little like that. They grow in their sleep. Ty would sleep for anywhere from 3 hours to 5 hours, and would wake up hungry and wet. He would be up for just a little while and go right back to sleep. Someone else may disagree, but I think that it is a normal part of being a baby.

The thing is they are all so different, I was on the other end of the scale and my son never slept for more than an hour during the day and 2 hours at night. I had a girlfriend with a little one like yours and boy some days I would of quite happily traded. However I agree with Tys Mom, if you are even slightly concerned it does not hurt to check with the doctor. If Haydn had slept 5 hours in either the day or night I would of rushed him to hospital because I would have been so sure that something was wrong because he just never slept. LOL My guess is you just have one of those gorgeous sleepers!

I agree, its perfectly normal for a new baby to sleep that much. Unless his sleeping habits have changed I wouldn't be concerned.

Blair has always been a sleeper. Even now. He goes to bed at 7 and wakes up at 7. When he was a baby, he slept ALL the time, but when he woke up he was hungry and demanding. Well, okay he's still like that. hee hee. Some kids just need a lot of sleep. I know I need a lot of sleep or I get cranky or things get muddled. That must be where Blair gets it. He was sleeping 6 hrs thru the night at a few weeks old. He would wake and lay on a blaket checking things out for an hour or two, then pass out until evening time. Almost every bottle ended in him asleep. So I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

Thanks...I took him to the dr., just for peace of mind. He said the only thing that could be wrong is that I got lucky and had a "low maintenance" child. I guess i should just be thankful and not worry soo much about what everyone is telling me. Smiler

See. He just needs more sleep to grow into that 8 foot tall basketball player! People are going to tell you all kinds of things about your baby as he grows up. NO ONE knows your baby like YOU!! No one ever will. I always listen to what they have to say and then choose what to retain and what to forget about. You and your baby will be fine!

Think of it as a blessing all that sleeping. He is just slowly charging his batteries for when he is a Toddler.Get ready with the crash helmet and knee pads for chasing him around..
