Wondering if there are any single parents out here in Denver, it would be a miracle if there were.

While not in Denver, I am in Colorado Springs...Single proud Mom of 2 beautiful daughters, Martina, 8 years and Julianna, 7 years old.
We are relatively new to the area, moved from California about a year ago; feel free to email me, I would love to correspond with another single mom, kind of help each other out with much needed emotional support! |

Wow there really are single parents in this place.. Hello there neighbor! I could definately use the emotional support as well. I just moved back from California in September. I miss it. So how do you do it with two girls? I have two myself, Tiauna, 7 years and Audree, 5 years.

I am a survivor, of sorts, I suppose...I have now been divorced for over a year, my ex-husband was (and probably still is) an alcoholic, drug addict, and unfortunately, a physical and emotional abuser. I lost my daughters to the foster care system for the longest 2 months and 3 days of my life, back in 2002, but was able to get them back, and also received full legal and physical custody of them.
I had not worked for almost 10 years, and now, at the age of 44, I have been working steadily for over a year. We also miss California, but there were just no job opportunities where we lived, and frankly, being so close to my ex, did not help our situation any. My brother and his family have lived here for over 5 years, so when he offered to move us here, so that the girls and I could get a fresh start, I jumped at the chance. While there are so many obstacles I have overcome, I still feel so totally depressed at times...while we are "ekeing" by, finances are difficult, the ex does not help in any way with child support, although I have a judgement against him, so if he works anywhere, the wages are attached...problem is, he either works "under the table" or quits his job, once they attach his wages. My life consists of working to support us, and I feel so bad for my girls...they are in a support group at this time, and while they seem happy at times, there are those times when I feel as if I am not spending enough "quality" time with them. I try to set aside time when I pick them up from day care after work, so we can "talk" do their homework, etc., but it just doesn't feel like enough...and then, there is me...I do not have the time or money to do anything for myself, and I feel as if I am "losing myself" at times. I am sure I am not the first, and will not be the last to feel this way, so I am thankful to find someone here in the general vicinity to vent, bounce back ideas and the like! Like you, I was starting to feel as if I was the only single parent here in Colorado! BTW, my daughters are Martina, who is 8 (9 this January) and Julianna (my birthday baby...yes, born on my birthday!) is 7. Please feel free to email me off post! |

Moniberri,
I noticed that you are in Aurora. My brother lives there and I plan on moving there in about a year. Do you like it there? Please tell me more, would love to hear about it. Do they have good single parent resources? |
