My ex and I went to court in December and I was awarded $461/mo in child support with the first payment due Jan 1st. In my state, he has 30 days to pay before he's late. He has to make the first few payments directly to the clearing house, and then it will come directly out of his paycheck. My question is, does anyone have experience with getting payments from the clearinghouse? How long do they usually take to send the funds to you?
I don't want to assume he's not paid, because he had until 2 days ago to make the payment. And I don't want to ask him because I don't want to rile him up. I don't want to look like I'm a money-grubber, even though my son is entitled to it. WE just had a stupid paternity issue. After court he told me, once again, that he wants a paternity test. he finally bought one and brought it over last week (he hasn't told me if he got the results or not- I know what the results are going to be, but it would be nice to know it's on paper), which to me was a last ditch effort to get out of support. 9And also told me that he didn't support our son before because it would have been seen as "gifts" by the court...way to think of your son first, buddy!!
Anyway, I'm not going to get my hopes up about receiving anything, but I am curious as to what to expect from the clearing house if he actually pays.

Honeybee,
I am not certain about a "clearing house" but my neice(my sister) gets her child support through the state. There is a website she can go to and plug in her case # to find out if it has been paid. Someone at the child support enforcement agency should be able to tell you how you can find out. I have my daughter's child support set up on IDO and the check comes straight to me from his employer every 2 weeks.
Good luck, I hope this comes through quickly for you.

Thanks Carla. I'll call my local office and ask them.

I also receive my child support through the state, and it is currently being deducted directly from my ex's unemployment, so that I receive a check every 2 weeks (approximately). When he was actually working, the employer had 30 days to submit the $$, which it seems the employer waited until the last possible moment to submit...however, the employer had to send it directly to the child support service, and then it was forwarded to me.

As you have noted, call the office or find out if they have a website, and get the information as to whether or not it (support) has been collected and distributed to you; my experience is that it always seems they send it, right before they can be penalized, but hopefully, your case may be the one that gets your money in a timely manner...if not, don't hesitate to call, call, call and be prepared to be put on "hold" for some time....but don't hang-up, you will get through!

Good luck, and keep us posted!

HBM,
I also suggest you have them set it up so it is directly deposited into your account. That way you are not sitting around for a check then having to go to the bank to deposit or cash it. Most companies/state entities can set this up electronically and you know it will be there. This way you are not waiting on a human to actually get off their butt and write a check. My sis also has her daughter's set up this way. She can check the status on the state website and then check her account to find out when the deposit was credited to her account.
