I am going to be a mother for the first time and have a very low income, but help from my family. The problem is that the father is incarcerated for at least the next three years. He may or may not be elgible for a work release program. I am not sure how to go about getting child support money from him and I also believe that there should be some kind of law that should help single mothers where the father is incarcerated. I don't believe this is fair for me or my child. Why should those that are incarcerated get out of paying for their children to lead better lives. Is there anyone else in my situation???

My older sister is going through what you are going through. She has a 7year old son who's father is in prison and will not get out for quite some time. Believe it or not she is receiving child support for her son through the state. The state is actually the one paying the support because her son is entitled to it. He had been receiving support when his father was out of prison because his fathers wages were garnished, or his unemployment was garnished, just depending on whether he had a job or not. She went through the Child Support Enforcement Agency and not through a lawer or anything like that. I would suggest calling your local Child Support Enforcement Agency and seeing how they can help you out because I am sure that they can.

I have heard of this before but, have never gotten anywhere with it. Is it because the child may have to be disabled?
Also wdoes it matter if the NCP had been paying cs before being in prison?
