Hi everyone,
I wrote many moons ago about my situation. I have filed for child support, child support enforcement has had trouble locating him because I didn't have very much info to go on. I have a social, it is valid but I am not sure that it belongs to him. He moved out of his apt and did not leave a forwarding address. I conducted a background check and found two possible addresses and two possible phone numbers(one of these phone/addresses possibly belongs to his parents). I know that he is a major in the Army and is apart of the 92nd or 97th ARCOM. What I don't know is who his commander is. Is there anyway to find this out. I thought about just calling and asking but I don't want to sound like a complete idiot (cause I don't know a lot of info) and I don't think that they will just give up that info like that. Does anyone have any ideas? Please help |

They will not give out that info; especially these days, the whereabouts of military members is VERY confidential information. However, I'd think child support enforcement would be able to use that information.... Military parents HAVE to pay child support - they will take it right out of his checks. In reality, it probably doesn't matter even which unit it is; it'll go through personnell.
See what the agency you're working with says to do. One idea is to call family services on the nearest bast; I'm sure that's not who handles this, but thay may be able to tell you who you SHOULD contact. You won't sound like an idiot if you explain that you're just looking for their help in finding the correct department to talk to. |

I'm not sure if this number will help you or not, but it's worth a shot. It's the Military One Source number and it helped me figure things out when my SO was deployed. It may hopefully direct you in the right direction.
(800) 342-9647 Also, it is my opinion that if you have a SS # that the CS office should be able to track him down no matter where he is, regardless if he's in the military still or not. Call your local CS office and ask them if they are able to track him down. Good luck! |

There is something called the Worl Wide Locator that the Army and ANY Army personnel has access to locate a soldier. I know that is how I found out where my sons father is now located because I know people that can access it. If you have not found your childs father, let me know, I know people who could look it up for you. That is sad, a major, no less. It shows no matter how high in rank these guys are, they still dodge. |

Hello Browneyedgirl
There is actually a lot you can do. If you know dad is in the military you must contact the federal Office of Child Support Enforcement. In fact there was a memo recently sent to military commanders to address the very issue you wrote about. Below is part of the memo: There is a name and contact number, that should get you started. You may want to also write a letter to your Congressman or the Senator in your area, asking for assistance finding this deadbeat military man. You pay their salary, they might as well earn their money and they can do a lot more than you can in finding him, particularly if he is still in the military. Now listen, keep a copy of every letter you mail and every phone call you make and present it if you have to take the turkey to court, you are truly making a reasonable effort to collect the support you deserve. Let me know how you come out. SUBJECT: New Publication "A Caseworker's Guide to Child Support Enforcement and Military Personnel" ATTACHMENT: Attached for your information is a copy of the new "A Caseworker's Guide to Child Support Enforcement and Military Personnel" It is a reference tool providing basic information on how the child support process applies to military members. In addition, the publication offers some best practice tips. The publication is availale for free download on the Office of Child Support Enforcement website at: www.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/cse. The publication is under the "Facts and Descriptions" section. INQUIRIES: If you have any questions, please contact Rayetta Byrd at the OCSE National Reference Center at (202) 401-9383.
