Hi,

I'm just curious is there anyone out there dealing with trying to get child support from a spouse who is not in the same state.

I use to have the state of MA garnish my ex's wages and they'd send me a check bi-weekly. I've moved out of MA and now reside in Arizona, ex resides in Maine and works in New York. He hasn't paid child support in over a year now. I've filing paperwork to have the state of Arizona enforce child support. Has anyone else had to deal with this? If so, how long did it take for it to get straightened out? I know it's going to be a long process so I'm in no hurry, just would like to know if anyone else is going through anything similiar.

Blessings,

I actually went into the office and they gave me several forms to take home to fill out. I understand that they do all the legwork which is good. My ex won't tell me who he's working for so that makes it challenging for me to try to do this without their help. I'll be filling them out and dropping them off and we'll see what they do from there. I did speak with a retired judge and he said that this was the best road to take. One, it illeviates those costly lawyer fees which I am just plain tired of being the one to pay for a lawyer everytime I am not receiving child support.

In addition to the fact he hasn't paid child support or medical expenses part of our agreement when I moved out here was that my new husband and I would fly my son back four times a year to see his dad. Well, without the payment of child support we're finding it extremely challenging to do so. The judge suggested we just tell the dad that unfortunately with the lack of child support he hasn't been paying we find it nearly impossible to be able to afford to fly our son back so if he'd like for him to come back at Christmas then he'll need to supply the ticket. I sent this letter to him certified on Dec 3 and gave him until Dec 12 to reply. He did and he's paying the $600 to fly him back (which I really didn't think he'd do)

So I'll fill out the paperwork and submit it and we'll see how the whole process works out. Thanks for your reply Yuki.

I'm going through the same thing. I live in Florida and my ex lives in NY. The child support order was initiated here in Florida, however since the ex has never paid a penney, FL CS had it registered in NY. Now this registration process started in Oct. of 2004 and here it is Feb. 2005 and they can't seem to figure out if it's registered in NY or not already 'cause NY won't answer them back. I wish I had the money to fly to NY and find out where the loser is working so that I can get the income deduction order mailed via certified to his new employer.

I live in Cali and my daughter's father lives in Texas. It's a piece of cake - file with your DA's office and provide them with his social security number. They will red flag his social so that when he begins to work - they can locate him and will garnish his wages. It's a lengthy process, but boy is it worth it.
