I want to know is there anything I can do. I have been trying to get child support since my son was born. That was nine years ago, we have been to court several times. Most of the times he don't show up and they put warrants out for his arrest. The last time we went to court was about five months ago and he did'nt show up as always. I called down to the child support office and they stated. That his ss# isn't showing any employment so there is really nothing that they can do until they catch him working. They also stated that the case will not go back to court until about another year. Is there anything that I can do because, I can really use the money right now.

I am not Ronn but if he is working and you know the place it is at you can call the State and tell them where he is working. Also if you get State Assistance then it helps keep the State on the lookout to get the child support. You can also file to get his tax returns if he files

Jayssmom, they have to locate him in order to serve him in order to move forward on a motion. They should have a locate system that looks for him automatically in certain databases. You can do down to the office and ask for a supervisor to ensure they have done everything they can to find him.

As for waiting another year, don't know what that is all about. In California, all you need to do to modify an order is who a material change of circumstances since the last order. I'm not clear on whether you even have a judgment yet. So, ask why you need to wait for a year to do anything.

When I went to court the judged stated that. The certified letter was never picked up from the post office. Last time I spoke to the case workers down at child support she stated that he does receive mail at the address that they have on file. I have a judgement he is 14,000 behind as of now, and he is suppose to pay 57 a week. Is it true that unless his ss# shows employment there is very little that they can do to make him pay.

Most agencies have locate systems ran by computers. These systems look for a matching SS#, date of birth, etc..... If he is working for an employer as a W-2 employee, his name will be reported to a federal database by the employer and they will match his SS#, most likely. If he is paid under the table or his wages are not being reported (in violation of federal law), he is off the radar and it will be tough for your local child support agency to find him, let alone put a wage assigment in place.

Unless he owns real estate, has assets, or is employed as a W-2 employee, or even owns his own business, there is really no source from which to collect support or place a levy to compel payment.
