I'm a single mother from illinios. My son was born in 1999. He was hospitalized in 2000 for ear tubes. Public aid covered the birth, but not the ear surgery. Anyhow, creditors have been after me since 2001. Can I make my ex-boyfriend pay half of these old medical bills? He pays child support that has been court ordered since Feb 2002. Someone told me there was a statute of limitations and my time had run out. Granted, I was irresponsible by ignoring the bills. We've been apart for over a year, but is there anyway I can make him take half the responsibility. It's his son too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look into the terms of your court order, he may be required to provide health insurance for your child as well as the child support. Also contact your child support enforcement agency and find out the rules concerning the existing medical bill. He may only have to pay half.
