Well here I am again. I previously posted about applying for a modification of child support after waiting 10+ years. Child Support was raised significantly in Dec 06 and father or ncp has been paying sporadically since then. He applied for a remodification due to a significant change in his income and the hearing was this past week. Everyone told me that he would get reemed by the child support referee, but the child support referee was extremely hard on me. MY income has been reduced somewhat since I applied for the modification in Dec 06 because my job has been through some changes; ie, major hotel changed name and business has reduced subsequent to that. Anyway, the referee wanted to know why I did not have a 40 hour a week job like everyone else and basically told me I needed to go back to school or something. I kept trying to tell him that I just got a 40 hour a week job and he would not hear me until he got done with his tirade. I get enough bullying from the ncp and I was in shock. Eventually, the referee did hear me and got the information. I did not include the new job in the financial evidence I had to supply for the hearing because I just started it and the first check was the day before the hearing. I did fax the referee a copy of the check.
Then it was the ncp(noncustodial parent)turn. The referee went through the financial info with ncp and joked around a bit about real estate issues, but he did tell ncp that his business looked like it was going under based on the info he supplied.
I did supply the referee with information that negated what the ncp was saying and caught him in a few lies, that is, if the child support referee actually reads what I sent him.
Anyway, I came out of this feeling extremely unfairly treated and depressed. I will post what happens when I get the new child support order in a few weeks.

Wow! got the new order today and they lowered it by half. they believed him and they did not even take into account that he is behind two months now. I called the caseworker (this is a cross state enforcement order) in the other state and she said the hearing does not take into account whether he is late or not. I am wondering if I apply for child support help here in the state I live in if it would work for me better. I kept the order in the state that I previously lived in and where the ncp lives because I thought they could or would be able to enforce it better, but I am thinking not. Anyway, no one has responded to my posts again.. so I would assume that no one really gains any helpful insight from and into my dilemmas.

Sorry you're dealing with this. For me, I feel my body tense up, any time I have court paperwork in front of me. I am a very intelligent person (IMO), I even have a Masters Degree, for crying out loud, yet I feel completely stupid and helpless when I look at paperwork.

It doesn't help, of course, that 6 months ago, when my ex applied to have his support revised (due to a change in employment) I completely messed up and signed paperwork that I had only skimmed.

How much more stupid can someone be? I mean, who signs something without reading it? Everyone knows that you have to read all of the fine print before signing...

Here again, my tendency to "believe the best in people" bit me in the ***. I got myself screwed out of approximately $20,000 in back child support owed to me. Yes, that's the right number of zeros, and yes, it makes me want to vomit when I look at it on screen.

I guess this turned into more of a personal vent for me. Sorry I don't have any suggestions for your specific case, other than to READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU SIGN!
