Hey Everyone...I'm new to all of this and am hoping that you will have some inside advice for me. After 8 years of not receiving a dime of child support from my son's dad, I finally woke up and desided I shouldn't have to work two or three jobs to support us but now I feel I'm getting the run around from the state on collecting. How long did it take for everyone else to receive some kind of child support.

How long ago was the child support ordered? If it's been a long time you may have to contact the state agency so they can light a fire under the county's butt.

They haven't even bothered to set an amount yet. They keep telling me maybe the end of next month. Come to find out they have kept my ex informed weekly on everything that is going on and I don't hear a word out of them unless I call and harrass them. It's very fustrating. They told my ex that he could give me money and they would credit him for that amount. Are they stupid...if he hasn't paid it 8 years what makes them think that he is just going to start now.

I would ask to go back to court to enforce the order.

in missouri now I dont even think you can get a drivers liscense if you are behind on child support. Its beyond me how anyone would not want to support their own kids,**** they never ask to be here..lots of luck stay on that trail

Am I understanding correctly that you didn't have a court order yet? Or do you have one and they're just not enforcing it?

If you don't have an order yet, you'll have a very hard time getting them to order back support for the 8 years you didn't request one. They'll ask you why you didn't seek help before now. You can request back support from the date you applied for the order, and that will probably not be hard to get, but if they're keeping him more informed than you, call in daily until they realize you're not going to sit idly by and let them move at a snail's pace.

I'm thinking along the lines of momof2okc. Since there isn't an amount determined yet, there can't really be a court order yet. How long ago did you file for support? I've seen it take 2-3 months from the date of filing without contested paternity, even longer for testing/results purposes. And yes, they will order back support from the date of filing.....and unless paid right away he'll be instantly in arrears however much it adds up to and be responsible to pay a certain amount extra every month until that balance is paid.
If it's been longer than a couple months already, I'd be asking to speak to supervisors on the next phone calls to at least get some sort of expected court date that the amount/court order to pay will be established.

I am sorry to say but I believe that you need to get him moving on his responsibility. I immediately started paying child support when I kicked the ex out. I was ordered 300 a month and for the last 5 years I have been paying 350 non stop and even when I have him. It is fathers like that that give us bad reputations. Not all of us are like that. Have you considered getting a new lawyer?

In my case, it took 11 months from the time I sent in the "Application for Nonassistance Support Enforcement Services" until DSHS sent a payment to me.

One week later, he quit his job and started working under the table.
