I have been trying to get child support forever form the state of Flordia!!! My ex owes my over 60,000 and nothing is being done. I now get a check for 130.00 every so often. I called them and updated his address. He doesn't call write or hasen't even seen them in over 9 years. So I will not drop it but I am trying to remove his parental rights and also get my boys their money. the order was 600.00 for two kids in 1993 on of which was a new born. what a raw deal, and i thought they were getting tougher on deadbeat parents!!!! Yea right Roll Eyes

Navybear,
I understand what you mean by getting through in the state of Florida. I believe it is just as bad everywhere in the dead beat parent department. My daughters child support was set up on an IDO so about 6 weeks after the divorce I started recieving it. My friend however is in your position. Six years of child support due for 2 boys. She is however going between 2 states. It makes it harder. My understanding is that if you go through the process of removing parental rights you will not get any support(past, present, future). Check into that. Another thing .. and check this as I am not sure.... if you do not get anything, the children can sue for back support due to them once they reach 18 years.
good luck,
Carla

In California most of their efforts to enforce child support payments are being spent when their is welfare involved, basically trying to recoup the states/federal money being paid out. Around here they take driver's licenses, business licenses, place liens on property, and some counties will jail you for 30 days for contempt of court, though not many as they have to keep civil matter inmates separate from criminal matter inmates and most just don't have the room. And they are very adamant about setting up wage garnishment. I think they should be able to be that persistent to collect child support for all cases and nationwide. But obviously they don't do that and it really isn't fair to the parents that are working and don't get the same kind of support from the child support collections agencies. But since they aren't the ones coming up with a negative balance since they aren't cutting checks to these families every month, they just don't put the same effort into it, if any effort at all.
