I'm quite confused on this. I know in order to get child support there needs to be a paternity test but after doing some research I still haven't received a clear answer.

Some people have said the birth certificate just needs to be signed. Others said that a paternity affidavit is legal. (I looked for the state of AZ and it does and can stand up in court if both parties sign one) But then someone said the military requires an actual DNA test no matter what which can be $500-700! = ( I can't afford that!

Any info. or experiences with this?

I wouldn't know...but I have a feeling nobody will look this low on the forum Frowner
But I hope. I kind of want to know the answer, too.

SingleMomAZ,

Have you tried contacting your CSE (Child Support Enforcement) office in AZ? If you are going to file for CS in AZ, they would be the ones to best advise you on what they would need to enforce it for you.

Good luck.

Yes, I have, thank you. When I called them, the lady told me to start paperwork now even though I haven't given birth but when I went in and gave my intro paperwork the lady told me there is nothing they can do until I have the baby :::rolling eyes::: Does nobody believe in being prepared ahead of time? lol

It's true that nothing can really be done until after the baby is born, however it sure would be nice to have your information beforehand.
I don't know about the military rules, some here may very well know that answer though.
As for the paternity affadavit, both parents sign in admittance/acceptance of who the father is, that's legally binding and waives the option to have DNA test prove it. Typically DNA testing is done when one of the parents are denying paternity..just never heard one way or the other about the military not accepting the paternity affadavit alone.
