I am New to SFV |
New here, glad I found this site. I'm trying to work with my someday ex (not divorced yet) to come up with the best arrangement for our 6 yr old and his 15 yr old. We have basically been roommates for over 6 months and I've exhausted all means of trying to make this 14 yr relationship, 8 of it married, work. You can ask anyone who knows me about that. Anyhow, I have read a little about some people that have done an arrangement where the parents are the ones to actually switch residences, not the kids. We own a house and my thought was to get an apartment nearby. We have both agreed that we dont want any formal visitation agreement/child support issues. His first divorce/custody was nasty and is still going on after 14 years. I've been by his side thru most of it (she left him) and neither of us wants that. My step son is with us a week then with his mom a week (we live close) and I think having him have yet another residence would not be good for him. He's a typical 15 yr old with his own stuff going on. We are just now getting separate checking accounts and splitting that stuff. We're both very practical with money and we dont want to send each other to finacial trouble either. So has anyone done this arrangement or know of anyone who has. I'd love to hear input/suggestions. Thanks

I have not been involved with this type of arrangement but it look to me like it would work until one or the other gets into a new relationship, then what?

Yes that would make it ackward, but to be honest, neither of us is looking at that right now I'm sure. I am exhausted from trying to save this marriage. I have a ton of friends and a great support group. I suppose if I met someone that I wanted to have a relationship I'd have to re-evaluate the situation at that point. Thanks for the input!
