I am New to SFV

I am in the process of leaving my husband of 22 years. They have been rocky from the start and i am just now out of energy to keep the relationship going. He is addicted to port, abusive when angered and very high maintance. It runs in his family and i have the family's support. But i am not sure how to get started. I know he is not healthy for my kids. I thought about getting an apartment for him so he could be away from us and then be there when he was ready to be dad. I dont want to ruin him but i know he is not good for us. How did you all aproach the seperation. Did you get restraining orders did you just talk about a plan? I am planning on asking him tonight if he would move into a place closer to his work so we wouldnt feel like such burdens and then all those things he says we do to annoy him would be gone. Deep down he is a good soul but the deep down guy doesnt come out enough at home. I am out of energy from making excuses for him and trying to be both mom and dad. What worked for some of you please?

You need the help and advice of a professional if he is abusive when violent. Please contact the national abuse hotline so they can guide you through this.

Hugs.
