My ex has filed for a noncontested divorce. I make little money but do not qualify for probono services. Lawyers are so expensive. If I didn't have a child involved I would just let it go. Since I can't do that I need to find a lawyer. Has anyone been in this situation? Are there any other services that provide lawyers for those with little money? Apparently I'm not low income because I don't qualify for anything i.e. wic,day care support, etc. I think I'm at a loss and all I can do is **** it up and pay out the butt! ugh

Hi there,
Try for the legal aid. It may welll be worth the effort.
I'm Canadian so I can't refer you to a service, but we I did up my divorce/separation/child custody process. I researched like crazy on our provincial family law website. I came up with a list of things that were important to me to be included in the papers.
Then I chose a mediation lawyer, and took my list to him. The first consult appointment was free.
I said this is what I want. I asked how much he thought it would cost me, we came to an agreement on cost. They 'leagalesed' it up for me, and I served it to my then husband.

Try to get together a list of what you want in there, and if at all possible dicuss and hammer out as much as possible with your husband before hand. That way the back and forth is minimized, and you both pay less for lawyers.
I had to bite my tongue many times in the process to get it done, but I made it through.

I dont know about in your area, but here there are places that will help you fill out the paperwork yourself. That is what I am doing and it will cost very little money. If you think you need professional help, go to a para-legal because they charge less.
