As you can see by my ticker that I'm about to have my baby, and she is bi-racial. (I'm white, her dad is African American). I was at work today, and I had to see this 90 year old female patient. She was a spit fire. Started to tell me about her life. She said she never had any kids, even though she and her husband had tried. She said she is catholic, (and so am I) and had prayed, and done novena's but nothing ever came of it. She had considered adoption, but chose not to because she didnt "know what she'd get." (Even when you concieve on your own, you dont know what your going to get.) I was thinking personality wise. Then she says its a good thing she didnt because she couldnt love a baby. I said, "really?" She said yes. Then she said "especially a black baby. I would never even pick one up! I dont like that kind, and they are all over the place here." (Meaning where I work, a lot of black nurses aids, etc.) I didnt say anything, but I was thinking to myself "How can you call yourself a catholic, and be so predjudice? Who are you to judge?" Then I thought I wouldnt want her near my baby, I wouldnt want her to pick her up. I know that in this ladies time, thats how it was. I am so glad that I was not raised that way, and that any baby of any race I would pick up, and/or protect if I had to.
Just needed to share and vent.

Yes, people can be so insensitive. They claim they are religious but that does not keep them from being a big fat ugly stupid ignorant BIGOT!!!!

I run into people like that too. I just stay away and say a prayer for their soul. That is just about all you can do.

I feel your pain and good luck with the new baby, I'm sure she will be perfectly beautiful!!!

My son is bi-racial as well, I haven't had too many problems with being around people like this, but his cousin on my side doesn't quite understand the difference between them. He is 4 and goes to stay with his dad every other weekend and his dad is a real redneck. My son was at my mom's house and she said when his 4 year old cousin came home he started to say, "you know why you don't want to marry a black woman" then my mom cut him off and had a talk with him. My son has a quick mouth though and yelled at him, my dad is black and he is stronger than anyone in this family. He was upset, but he got over it. I just can't stand people who act that way and spread it on to their kids.

This is kinda late cuz my PC was down..but some people are just plain igrorant-some try to act so self-rightous when they should look at thereselves first! case in point: when I was like..14, I had a friend whose mom would not let her hang around me b/c I hung out with everyone-black, puerto rican, etc. Well, this girls mom was with a guy that sexually abused her older sisiter and that sisiter ended up killing herself. My friends mom chose that stupid guy over her daughter and my friend had to live with her grandparents! Even at 14- I knew this situation was terrible wrong and just strengthened my convictions and beliefs. I have bi-racial kids too and dont see race or color in people- I look for whats inside!

That is terrible, my best friends parents in high school were like that, they would tell her to stay away from black people and mexicans and all that, but her own dad was sexually assaulting her, go figure. Who are the real bad people here. I started young also realizing what was right and wrong. I grew up in a small town so there was a lot of racism present and I had friends that would tell jokes and even at the age of 9 or 10 I would get offended by these jokes. My parents aren't racist, so I guess maybe it was instilled in me although I don't remember them teaching me that much about be equal, I think it is just something that was in my soul. Maybe a past life experience Smiler

I dont see color/race either. It really doesnt matter what anyone looks like, its whats inside that counts. That is truly what I see.
My daughters father, for example, is ugly from the inside out, because he is so evil and hateful.

I have to tell you as someone who was born of incest, and my parents [brother and sister] are both bi-racial, which I think would make me mostly white? (Genetics and recessive genes...) I have had to straighten out a lot of people. My adoptive mother still considers me bi-racial, as in half-white half-black, which is genetically impossible. Both of my children have white fathers, and they're very fair skinned. But my son has been on the receiving end of ignorant comments before. To whit, a woman once asked his adoptive mother if he was an albino black kid! Of course, albinos ALL have green eyes. DUH?!
Admittedly, it is getting more common to see a white girl with a biracial baby, but it is still very rare to see a tan-skinned woman with a white child. I'm hoping no one asks me if I'm my daughter's nanny!

Wow! That fact must come with a lot of preconcieved notions.

You don't even know the half of it! Big Grin I've been rejected by my biological family because of this, and have had this fact (my conception) used as a "reason for my strange behaviour" as a teen by my adoptive mother too.

Forget that I watched my adoptive father suffer and die of cancer for 16 mos...!
