I know I am a way to weary mom, 'cause I can't even think of what to say.. I am a now
single mom of nine black adopted pre-teens. My mom also adopted when I was a teen. What a wonderful time. This time as the mom, my heart was not prepared for the level of racism that does exist in this country. How are others coping in the year 2002 with the realities of being single and helping our kids face a mean world? |

I honestly can not say how we deal with this world and thier racism. I have four children all naturally mines however my oldest child is white like myself and half hispanic I recieved racism when he was born from a lot of people including my own extended family mind you to look at my son you would never know he was interracial. I have a daughter whose father is white however because of where i live people call my blonde haired blue eyed daugter an albano. Tehn there is my two year old twins who are half black. Who have been called every name in the book since they turned three months old and started getting a little darker. My twins are really pretty light skinned but keep in mind that there father is light to medium skinned black. They have been called half breeds little n's just to mention a few and that is from thier dads family. I really cannot understand the racism, I thought this was almost '03 and I live in the midwest when I had my twins I knew that we would expirience some type of racism but I never once figured it would be from there own paternal grandmother especially since there dad and I have beentogether for 4 years and on and off 3 years before that. Racism to me is like an act of terroism upon all. Regardless of what color a person is they are a person who did not make themselves there parents made them. Regardless of skin color we are all American's and racism only will destroy all of us. When people make fun of call my children names, I tell my children to remember that they are American's and that if everyone had to be the same way this would be a boring andugly world to live in. To be proud of what they are that thier color does not define them only what they do with there life should define who they are, just as M.L. King Jr said.

SO I TOLD THEM STRAIGHT UP WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OFF WE ALL LOOK THE SAME.HAHAHAHA WELL HERE WE ARE OVER20 YRS LATER AND SHE'S STILL MY SIS AND MY DAUGHTER'S GODMOTHER. JUST KNOW THAT THERE IS A LIGHT AT THE END OF THIS TUNNEL. YOUR KIDS ARE LUCKY TO HAVE YOU. STAY ENCOURAGED OK? I'M RIGHT HERE.
