Hello everyone,
First off, does anyone know why I can't get in "open discussions" and "whoa"?I get an error message everytime but the rest seem to work fine.Strange.
O.K,back to football. My son just started junior high this year,6th grade, and is playing football.HE IS SOOOO SMALL.He only weighs 83 pounds and I'm scared to death he will get hurt.Alot of his friends are on the team as well, almost all the boys that are on the basketball team with him are doing but sports. He really loves it and his coach says he is a good player but it scares me to death.I really want him to get involved in school,I wasn't involved in anything,I know he will help his confidence and he has always been a straight A student that hardly ever cracks a book so I don't think it will hurt his grades any. It's the broken bones, neck, and just the fact that some big kid could seriously hurt my baby.Am I wrong?I hate to tell him he can't play because I tried that already and he said he wasn't a quitter so I just didn't have the heart to make him quit.Sometimes they play with the varsity teams though and they are 7th and 8th graders, some of these country boys look like grown men out there playing. Is anyone elses "BABY" playing football? Some thoughts, opinions,or experiences with this would really help alot.Thanks.

My son is playing FB for the first time also. He is in the 5 th grade and all of 71 pounds. I don't want him hurt but he is all boy and needs this physical contact. It's been 3 weeks and he has been a trooper and sticking with it. I tend to giggle when he runs the wrong way. It will be OK. Be Mom, but don't baby him. I know it is hard to do. Learning as you go, it's what we do!

Hello to both of you! My son is now 15 (see my other post about him wanting to move in with his dad!) but when he was 11 he wanted to play football, and he also was very small for his age. On top of that he has Epilepsy... however his doctors said he could play so I let him. He's still playing in high school, and has never been hurt. I completely understand your fears, but I do think they will be ok. If they are anything like my son, they will have some of the best times of their lives on the field. Hope this helps at least a little.
