Hi Guys,
I was diagnosed with an abdominal hernia this week. The dr says its not big deal; outpatient surgery, but the thought of it scares me. Anyone been through this before? What was it like? How long does it take to recover? I do weight training and am afraid I'll have to give it up. John |

bikejon, my ex had one. He was riding his motorcycle the day after surgery even though he wasn't supposed to be. He ended up hurting his back because he picked the motor bike up to put it on the back porch, but that was his stupidity. My daughter also had abdominal hernia surgery when she was five. It was all I could do to make her stay still. Recovery was pretty quick and easy for both of them. In my daughter's case I was the wreck. I will be praying for you, get well soon!

Hi Bike. i actually had a ventricle hernia ( above the belly button right under the rib cage ) which is the most serious one operated on in October. It was also 23 hour outpatient deal too. The first day was very hard and very painful but after that it was a breeze and not near as painful as the hernia itself was. I was back at work as network tech within 3 weeks and actually could have done it in 2 weeks really. My son is 4 and I had to have some one there the first 2 days and then I was fine alone. Ih I had to do it agian I would walk sooner right after the surgery. While it hurt like heck to walk the more I did the easier and faster it was for me to take care of myself agian. God luck and God bless you !

Thank you netsurfer & Drew!
My hernia is right above the belly button and below the ribcage, too! What you're telling me is scary because I thought it wouldn't be as serious. The dr makes itsound that way. I got mine from years of weight lifting. ironically I've been trying to make myself more appealing to women! LOL! Of well. I won't see the surgeon 'til the 16th so I won't really know what's involved 'til then. Take care! John |

The reason mine was serious was because it was causing problems with my lungs and diaphragm as well. Most of them do not. I initially went to the doctor because it was hard for me to breathe. I also got mine lifting weights as well. For the longest time I though I pulled a muscle or something and was just taking Advil and drinking a lot of fluids. You will be fine and like I said 2 or 3 weeks I was back to normal.
