ASPIRE:

assisting single parents in realizing education

Last updated on December 5, 2011

Established in 2009, the mission of ASPIRE is to provide economic, social, and personal opportunity to single parent families through higher education.
Description:
ASPIRE is modeled after the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund, which was founded in 1990 and is the only existing statewide scholarship for single parents in the nation. We aim to extend the impact of this successful scholarship program to the nation.

ASPIRE accomplishes its mission by developing and working with state, local, and regional ASPIRE affiliates to build strong scholarship programs with a holistic approach. We provide support through leadership, organizational training, and mentorship to program affiliates, which provide scholarship and non-monetary support to single parents pursuing post-secondary education.

The concept of our affiliates is a community based scholarship fund aimed at encouraging and supporting the educational and training aspirations of impoverished single parents. Many civic organizations, churches, business, foundations, and individuals who donate their time, money and resources are the encouragement that single parents need to pursue higher education and to prepare for a career that will enable them to support their families independently. Obtaining meaningful employment also allows single parents to have a more positive impact on their family, the community and the economy.
