What do you do to relax!?

I usually try to take a bath, have some candles, bubbles, music.. but when I can't do that.. I just try to read, and make myself an actuall dinner..

Relax? For the past few months...I put on some good music (typically Motown or Soft Classic Rock) and get on SFV! I've also been known to take a shower (no bath here ) and then wrap up in the most comfortable pajamas, with the most comfortable pillow and blanket and turn off all the lights. Sometimes even in the middle of the day it's nice to pretend that it's night time. Night time is when all my cares can go away.

First off, welcome Angie. Okay so now...

I watch TV and curl up in a flannel throw. Bubble baths never meet my expectations. A glass of wine is really all I need and that is only rarely.

I like to relax with a good book, or try to get away from the kids....because thats where most of my stress comes from!
Nice signature schoolmommy-I love that movie Friday!

Apparently almost anything with water does it for me sauna, hot tub, aroma baths, but I used to love the tanning bed, most music but a glass of white wine with any of these activities certainly doesn't hurt after a 14 hour day at work then about another 4 at home before bedtime.

I agree. I'm a water person too. Summers I love because I usually take my son to the waterfront, buy some lunch and eat it while watching the cruise ships, helicopters and water-planes, come and go by the dock .. he loves it and so do I.

Winters it's a bit of a drag. I tend to net surf or I'll read a book here and there whenever I'm feeling driven.

A little classic rock/Soul/Motown or some decent 80's stuff.
Going to the local airfields and watching the planes disappear to far away places and dreaming.

I love to just sit outside and look up at the stars. It helps me know that no matter how big my problems seem, the world is much bigger than me. It also makes me remember being a kid and having my grandpa try to teach me about the stars. It really is sad that I didn't retain more of what he tried to teach me!

Ty's Mom- I did forget about the stars thing until you said something! I like to watch them a lot and we have a lot of clear skies out here to do just that- I have really been wanting to buy a telescope to be able star gaze and see far off galaxies and such...well, maybe this year I will!

Yes I really like to read too,as I had stated before-the only problem is actually being able to have time to concentrate on reading with kids around! I really like to read novels that are set in historical periods, you actually learn a lot! I love Sidney Sheldon's books too!

I really have to think for this one. I think I almost never REALLY relax.
I always pretend to be relaxed though, but I don't necessarily succeed in that.
Relax...I suppose I relax a little when I answer posts like this, because it makes me think about myself and how I go through life.
The only time I relax a little is probably when I sleep, but even then I always expect a cry from the other bedroom and I will automatically jump up, then consciently pause to see if he can go back to sleep without me.
No, relaxing is not one of my priorities I guess.

I don't. Wish I could. Not even in my sleep. I often awake with a start several times when I am falling asleep. I am exhausted with no end in sight and that's the way it is. Relax? Ha!

5 minutes with a book and I am absorbed in a different world and it does not matter what is going on with the rest of my life. My problem is where to store all the books I have - I read them over and over and can’t bear to give them away, they are treasured friends. My other relaxation is pottering about in the kitchen creating.

Hi! I'm VERY new to this site and saw this topic and thought I'd give my 2 cents ! To relax I stamp or I listen to music or I cook LOL. Card making and doing a project is relaxing to me, Music is a release for me if I'm in a bad mood I put on the headset and crank Metallica or something heavy, Cooking is great too, the smells of whatever I'm cooking will take my mind off whatever has me stressed.

I love the water, too. Heck even if it is just a tubby after they are asleep. Music,

Walking if it is possible to do without children -- so not too often -- I love to take a nice long brisk walk. It is so refreshing.

Oh and then there is the glass of red wine. Honestly, if I'm not here chatting most time when I grab one I don't even finish it, just the idea of it and a few sips of warmth seems to do the trick. I also find even a caffeine free diet soda along with some favorite snack the girls would never eat. After they fall to sleep I get my pj's and curl up with a plate right in the living room -- ok so food isn't a good thing but you know what, it works sometimes.

Luckily, because I live with my parents and they are really good about helping me with my daughter, I get the luxury of being able to "relax" sometimes. I love to read, and I especially love to scrapbook.

I don't scrapbook at home too much because there is always so much to do, but my mom house-sits for a couple we know and stays at their house for about 5 months while they are away. I spend the weekends there with her and I scrapbook for most of the weekend while she keeps my daughter entertained.

And my new form of relaxation...joining this site and reading & replying to the posts!

I love to listen to music(anything from Fiona Apple to Jill Scott) in the evening, when the kids are in bed. Also, I write poetry, surf the net, read James Patterson or Nicolas Sparks, watch House MD. Wow, I guess I really know how to relax! I never really thought about it in detail like this...
I recommend taking long naps whenever possible.

when i can't relax, i force myself to exercise...go for a long walk or a short jog and then take a hot bath afterwards with some instrumental music, light up some candles...after that i will pick up a motivational book and only read positive thoughts. then i shut the lights out.

WOW
thanks for bringing up this old post again. I answered this 2 years ago already.
Things have changed a lot since then...my son is 2 years older for once...he rarely wakes up at night now and cries..and if he does he usually commes and sees ME in my room.
Life in general is more relaxed, although answering the question is still hard.
I don't seem to ever REALLY relax.

I dont know how relaxing this is, but it's a great stress reliever. I've been going for bike rides. Fresh air. 30 minutes of solitude. I feel very invigorated afterward.

that is so sweet!!

Relax - yes, books, music, dancing, surfing the net, lying on the sofa watching a good film, water - either bathing in it or watching it as in a wild or calm sea or river, watching the stars (tho too much light pollution in this town), and someone also mentioned watching aeroplanes take off, yea, I love that, imagining the nice tropical beaches I could be flying to - prefer to be there tho!!

I love cooking and baking, it relieves my stress especially the decorating part. I love doing it and it is a part of my weekend. Sometimes I treat my self by putting a natural facial masks and I love hoe it works. Drinking some smoothies can relax me too.

Gardening. Gives me something to nurture that gives something back. Also gives me something to do when I am outside letting little one blow off steam.

In my current home I don't even have a bath! That's a shame because I loved doing this to stress out. Right now if I have a minute, I listen to music, read a good book and drink hot cocoa with marshmallows. Sometimes I sing.
