busybee Blockbuster/Hollywood Video - GONE

For years - decades, my home has had, pizza and movie night, mostly on tues when the new rentals would be released... This was more than just movie night, it was also an invite night too, new friends, old friends, popcorn, corn dogs, some have even bought items to talk about too. [relating to the movie we intended to watch]

As my youngest are now 15, it was beginning to dwindled down to just the twins and their girl friends lately, but it was what it was, Tueday night was a gathering night. Hollywood video, then blockbuster fell like pedals from a flower. Today, we have some boxes, and we tried them, eh, and the other option is 3 dollar seats each at the cheep cinema, eh too.

So another America tradition changes again from the corner store pick up to Streaming the shows from ONLINE.

We found this, Movies, TV Shows, Documentary and all from around the world.
Japan, hungry, china, and of course US

I am weary of anything that allows you to stream movies that are in a theater. I don't know how they do that without committing theft or piracy.... and like napster of the old, I would not want this to come back and bite me in the ____. I don't know how they are doing this legally.

I have been using NetFlix to get movies in the mail since 1999 and have not set foot in a Blockbuster but once a year since then. I always thought it was a pain to get in the car, go see what they had, them be out of what you wanted unless you did not work and could get there when they opened. To me the mail route or streaming online is so much better. So I'd say have your tradition, just modify a little to use the better tools.

I'd also look at NetFlix, or if you don't mind a little delay.....we use the library.

There is also RedBox, if you have that in your area. Here it is usually at the grocery store or McDonalds' and you do it all electronically, and return it the same way. They usually have the new ones quick.

We have a gazillion redboxes and blockbuster expresses and at first I loved them. Super convenient, only $1, and I can leave the kids in the car while I grab the movie!

But after a couple weeks, I quickly grew to despise them.

The new releases are NEVER available. The new releases from 3 weeks ago still aren't available.

The movies that are available are always scratched and I end up missing 2 or 3 entire scenes because I have to skip past them completely or the movie freezes.

And people think they need to stand 2" away from you while you're picking out movies... either because they're trying to figure out how to do it themselves, or they want to be sure you know they are there waiting for their turn to rent a partially mangled DVD.

So no more boxes for me. I'm joining netflix again.

We changed to Netflix when the Ma & Pa video shop closed in the only plaza close by. Redbox sucks... they have nothing to begin with and of that nothing, nothing is ever in stock.

I liked going in and walking around, perusing the old and the new. I loved chatting with the woman who owned the store about her picks, etc. Netflix is "ok" but we liked a movie a week and honestly it isn't any cheaper. I now have to keep track of the envelope, mail it by Tues to have it Friday, etc. And then realize I forgot to update the queue so we end up with a movie we don't want to see that week e.g. we have Santa Paws here right now, No Thank you in MARCH July, fine, but not this close to being done with Christmas.

Thanks for the link, I'll check this out!

Wow, Redbox by us is good. But we also have a redbox-like dispenser at the grocery store that is very good as well.

It's the library ones that have scratches. I am making my way painfully through a set of dvds now, tons of scratches.
