Default Advice....

I am a recently singled mother. When we were together it was a sinking ship. I was working a swing shift at a gas station and going to school. I would work 50 hours a week if not more and i was paying all the bills. He was laid off and was collecting unemployment but was not helping me. Eventually we had to move in with his mother and his sister with her baby. The house was crowded and there was no privacy. He had no ambition to move and stay out of his moms. Finally a little over a month ago I took my child and left. We moved in with my sister. I got transfered to another store and I still attend school. Well after the first week of working at the new store they did away with my position which left me jobless. This past saturday I lost my car and I don't have a job. I feel like a sinking ship. I can't get any help right now and I can't find a job especially now. I am trying to stay strong for my son but I am crying every second he is not looking at me. My husband won't help me out and I am at a dead end as to what to do. If anyone has any advice as to what to do please tell me. I could use all the advice I could get.

Hi and welcome! So sorry for the hard times you have been hit with. You basically have two choices. Both involve pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. The best (I think) would be to go back to school. You would probably qualify for alot of aid to do so. Many here have done that and will be able to give you alot of advice on how to go about it.
The other is to get another job or start a small business...like maybe childcare, or something with the schools. That will save you alot in daycare expences. You may have to use public transportation for awhile, or find something you can walk to, but you can do this. If your license is clean, most places are almost always looking for school bus drivers and they often will train you...just a thought...saved my ____! Good luck!

Also, if you have nowhere to go, and have a child, there are social service agencies available to go to. Shelters to, if need be, while you are looking for a job. Also, you should be able to apply for unemployment, which will help you get through as well.

Well I am still attending school so I still have a graduation date in June. So at least I am heading in the right direction there. Other than that I am still looking for another job. It's so hard especially around the holiday season, no one seems to be hiring. But I just wanted to thank everyone for the advice. It makes me feel like I am not the only out there.

You are SO not the only one out there! Great news that you are still in school!
Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Maybe you could take some classes on-line to keep expences down? What are you going to school for?
Work can be found. Resturants and stores often need extra help for the holidays. Seniors and others need snow shoveled or leaves raked. Say you charge 20 bucks a house, do just one a day, that's $100 (or $140 if you do all 7 days) you didn't have before, plus a decent workout in the fresh air.
I don't mean to make it all sound like a piece of cake, I know it's not, these are just some ideas. If I were you, I would go to the school I attend and ask if there was any work you could do, even as a sub for a regular employee.
I wish you all the luck in the world. You'll be fine. Go get em!
