Default Is there a difference?

So I spoke with my lawyer a few days ago and he advised me to file for custody of my son ASAP and also file for child suppport. I am so glad to hear that VA still honors the original custody order regardless if I got married or not. But years ago I filed for CS through the Dept of CS Enforcment. Is there a difference between DCSE and Juvenile courts? If so and which is better?

I don't know the difference--but I would definitely follow your attorney's advice on the matter! I'm really glad to hear that the VA will honor the original custody order. Good luck!!

Thanks blue. My attorney told me to file for CS but never specified which route to go. So I was trying to figure out which is the best route to go

Keep it through the State. The difference is money & time & lots of it.
If through the state, if you already filed, you should have a 'case' number, they spend their time (mostly. Unless you have information to supply that will help) going after CS. No attorneys fee's, court costs, time in court (you have the option of going but are not required, here anyway) for you, if your case is enforced by the state.
I really have to stay on my CS case. They're fairly overwhelmed.

I believe CS would go through civil court? Surely not juvenile? In any case, if you sought counsel to enforce CS, there's attorney's fee's, court costs, time in court, etc., etc.

Good luck!

Oh sorry AA! Yes, I'd go through the state--here our Child Support Enforcement Agency is a state agency. Good luck!!

I googled your state of virginia and saw this:

https://www.dss.virginia.gov/family/dcse/

There is a link to "apply for" ? and also a number to call. Do you have your case# from the last time it was filed?

Thanks everyone. You guys are the best. I am sure I can locate the case #. I keep all important documents locked away. I will look for it today. If I can not locate it I will make a visit Monday to get everything started. I will keep you all posted.

Thanks for the update, AA! And you may be able to pull up your case at the link, if you have your case #, and you may be able to check the status.

AA,

You will love it going thru the state agency. I view my account online, payment history, bench warrant history, mail history, balance due etc. It is awesome!
